Undergoing the face-to-face lecture system, as usual, has recently become a dream for students. It is good news that this seems to be starting to materialize with the presence of face-to-face learning trials (PTM) or commonly known as hybrids.
The Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Diponegoro University (FISIP Undip) has officially held a face-to-face learning experiment on Monday (18/10).
As a study program that was allowed to conduct PTM trials, the Communication Science Program seeks to hold face-to-face classes by making many preparations.
Preparation of the Hybrid Lecture System by the University
Fhatwa Hilal as a student of Communication Science batch 2020 expressed his opinion regarding the preparations that have been made by the university. He considered that the implementation of the PTM trial was quite good in several aspects.
“It’s quite good in terms of setting health protocols. There are also additional supporting media used in learning activities,” he said when interviewed on Thursday (21/8).
The university also maximizes the preparation for the PTM trial by providing direction and training to lecturers. Agus Naryoso as a lecturer in Communication Science Undip said that the training for lecturers was aimed at making optimal teaching possible in the PTM trial.
“Directions are given by the faculty level for PTM trials. This training includes how to adapt to advanced technology. For example, the Microsoft Teams platform is connected to a 100-inch screen so that students studying online can be directed to the screen,” he explained during an interview on Monday (25/8).
Agus considered that this was an unusual experience because he was allowed to try out a technology that was not known before.
Not only that, but the university also maximizes security facilities to prevent the spread of Covid-19. Fhatwa believes that the facilities provided are quite complete.
“In my opinion, the security facilities and prevention of the spread of the Covid-19 virus provided by the university are quite complete. There is a body temperature screening device and an automatic antiseptic. Then, the distance settings in the classrooms are also appropriate so that air circulation in the classroom can be fulfilled properly,” he explained.
Face-to-face Lectures and Its Advantages
Fhatwa also considered that the supporting facilities in the face-to-face learning activities provided were adequate.
“It’s more proper because there is comfortable air circulation, tables and chairs for writing, and a conducive learning atmosphere,” he explained.
These facilities also contribute to a more conducive atmosphere during learning. He felt that he could focus more on understanding the presentation of the material and subject matter presented by the lecturer.
“Face-to-face lectures can also allow me to communicate informally and consult directly with lecturers,” he added.
Students are Expected to Take Advantage of the PTM Trial Opportunity
Agus hopes that in the future more students can be involved in PTM trials because he sees this will be an interesting experience for students.
“Yeah, try to come along. I hope that more students will take part in the PTM trial so that the atmosphere of face-to-face lectures can improve,” he explained.
He hopes that this opportunity can be used well because students can get to know the campus better by utilizing existing facilities.
“Students should be happier enjoying the new campus. Some facilities can be utilized, a new environment, and a new class. I hope my friends from Undergraduate Communication Sciences can take advantage of the opportunity to try out PTM well,” he concluded.
