The Rector of Universitas Diponegoro Prof. Dr. Yos Johan Utama, S.H., M.Hum. led the Heroes’ Day commemoration ceremony which was attended by lecturers, education staff and student representatives at Diponegoro University. The ceremony was held at Widya Puraya Undip Field, Tembalang, Thursday (10/11).

At the ceremony, the Rector read out a mandate from the Minister of Social Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia on this Heroes’ Day commemoration. We commemorate Heroes’ Day every year with serious reflection to retain the traces of the Heroes in our lives as a Nation and an Independent State.

“Together we remember and honour the struggle of the Heroes. Together we build the nation’s collective memory in order to carry out the spirit and noble values of Heroes. Together we strengthen the unity of the nation in the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia, which is the mandate of the National Heroes. Let us fight against ignorance, fight against poverty and attempts to divide the Nation to realise a just and prosperous society. Together we fight radicalism, we develop the spirit of solidarity to welcome a bright future. Heroes will become role models for us to navigate through challenging times. An example for us to organise the future and become a winner. Happy Heroes’ Day 2022,” he said.

Prof Yos also added that a form of gratitude and patriotism was to work hard, be more enthusiastic, and increase research and the number of publications.

“Work hard and smart to realise noble ideals. Let’s strengthen patriotism by realising our happiness by seeing others happy, making each other happy and loving others,” he said.

In line with the theme of the commemoration of Heroes’ Day in 2022, “My Hero is My Role Model”, Undip Rector advised following the spirit and struggle of the Heroes. Moreover, Undip carries the big name of Prince Diponegoro. For this reason, we must be able to represent the values of Diponegoro’s struggle: honesty, justice, courage and care. (Lin/Ut-PR)
