Semarang, May 16, 2026 – The Community Service Division of the Student Executive Board (BEM) at the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP), Universitas Diponegoro (Undip), successfully organized the “FISIP Bermakna 2026” program on Saturday, May 16, 2026, at the Werdha Rindang Asih II Nursing Home in West Semarang. This initiative serves as a platform for student social engagement, involving 20 FISIP Undip volunteers from various academic departments to share companionship, empathy, and happiness with the elderly residents, affectionately called oma and opa (grandmothers and grandfathers).
More than just a social visit, FISIP Bermakna 2026 represents a tangible manifestation of students’ efforts to cultivate empathy and humanitarian values within their academic lives. Through direct interaction with the elderly, volunteers are invited to recognize the profound importance of presence, attention, and simple conversation—gestures that often hold deep meaning for senior citizens.
During the event, volunteers accompanied the elderly in a warm and enthusiastic canvas painting session. This activity provided a space for the oma and opa to express their creativity while building emotional closeness with the volunteers. The atmosphere was filled with laughter, stories, and heartfelt conversations that created a genuine sense of family throughout the event.
The spirit of companionship grew even stronger during a joint karaoke session between volunteers and the elderly. The seniors’ enthusiasm for singing together brought about a warm and joyful atmosphere. The presence of students among them not only offered entertainment but also served as a meaningful gesture of social care, making the nursing home residents feel valued and accompanied.
Beyond fostering companionship, FISIP Bermakna 2026 also included the donation of basic necessities to the nursing home, reflecting FISIP Undip students’ social concern for the needs of the elderly.
