Over the course of approximately 4.5 hours, participants engaged in a series of activities meticulously designed to simulate democratic processes firsthand. The session commenced with a guided tour of the NasDem Tower and a visit to the National Gallery, which offered a visually immersive narrative of Indonesia’s constitutional journey and national history. Participants were then involved in an interactive role-play simulation, stepping into the shoes of DPR members and government officials—complete with a plenary session and public aspiration absorption exercises—all facilitated directly by subject-matter experts and seasoned political practitioners.
Listianisa, a Government Studies student from FISIP Undip who attended as a participant, expressed that the experience had profoundly shifted her understanding of politics. “I am truly delighted to have taken part in this program. Remaja Bernegara has genuinely broadened my perspective on governmental politics. For too long, many young people have been reluctant to engage, assuming politics to be convoluted and tainted—when in reality, it is our participation that will determine the future direction of this nation,” she remarked.
As a student currently immersed in the academic study of governance, Listianisa emphasized the program’s strong relevance to her university curriculum. She noted that the simulations of legislative mechanisms and aspiration-gathering processes served as a vital bridge between theoretical democratic frameworks and their real-world application. Such experiential learning, in her view, significantly enhances students’ capacity to comprehend the intricate workings of state institutions in a more holistic manner.
Amid rising political apathy among Indonesia’s youth, the Remaja Bernegara initiative emerges as a concrete and responsive solution to this pressing challenge.
