Design Class 2026: “Shine Through Your Identity” Boosting Visual Creativity for the Community through Graphic Design

Semarang — In an effort to develop graphic design skills for the general public, the Public Administration Student Association, Department of Media and Information, organized the Design Class 2026 program with the theme “Shine Through Your Identity.” This activity is a graphic design training session open to the public, aimed at enhancing participants’ ability to create visual works—specifically digital posters using Canva—while encouraging them to express their personal identity and positive values through design.

Design Class 2026 was held on Saturday, April 18, 2026, virtually via Zoom Meeting. Although participants joined the event online, the organizing committee coordinated in person at Banaran Coffee and Art to ensure the smooth execution of the program. The event kicked off with an opening session featuring an accountability report from the chairperson of Design Class 2026, followed by welcoming remarks from the Chairperson of the Public Administration Student Association and the Association’s Faculty Advisor.

Following the opening, the core session of Design Class 2026 featured a presentation by the guest speaker, Fransisca Umbarani, lasting approximately 90 minutes. During the session, the speaker discussed how to build a visual identity through design, the importance of creating a positive image, and the fundamental principles of design, such as composition, typography, and color selection. In addition, participants were shown a simple demonstration of creating poster designs using Canva as a direct application of the material presented. This was followed by an interactive Q&A session between the participants and the speaker.

Following the presentation and Q&A session, the event continued with an interactive quiz designed to test the participants’ understanding of the material. The quiz consisted of multiple-choice and true-or-false questions, with the top three scorers receiving cash prizes as a token of appreciation.

The next agenda item was the technical briefing for the poster competition, which is part of the Design Class 2026 event series. The competition carries the same theme, “Shine Through Your Identity,” with the aim of encouraging participants to express their personal identity and convey positive values through visual works. The top three entries in this competition will receive cash prizes, with the winners to be announced on the official Design Class 2026 Instagram account.

Through this activity, it is hoped that participants from various backgrounds can enhance their graphic design skills, develop their creativity, and effectively convey positive messages through visually appealing and meaningful works.
