Semarang, FISIP UNDIP — The work of alumni from the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Diponegoro University, continues to demonstrate tangible contributions across various professional sectors. One such example is Zulfikar Kharisma Akbar, S.Sos., M.Ikom, an alumnus of the International Relations (S1) and Communication Science (S2) programs at FISIP UNDIP, who currently holds the position of Commercial Manager at Nayati Indonesia.
Zulfikar’s career journey represents an adaptive and industry-relevant academic trajectory. His background in International Relations provided analytical skills, an understanding of inter-actor relations, and sensitivity to global dynamics, which were later strengthened through his Master’s studies in Communication Science with a focus on strategic communication and digital marketing.
Before assuming his current position, Zulfikar had extensive experience in the FMCG and creative industry sectors, including more than three years as Head of Marketing at Toffin Central Java. In that role, he led regional marketing strategies, managed social media and marketplace teams, organized regional to national scale events, and strengthened business partnerships and KOL management.
In an alumni interview, Zulfikar affirmed that the learning process at FISIP UNDIP—at both the undergraduate and graduate levels—provided a strong foundation in strategic thinking, research-based communication, and collaborative leadership. Courses emphasizing analysis, communication planning, and audience understanding became important assets when facing real-world challenges in the workplace.
“The combination of International Relations and Communication Science is highly beneficial in industry. We are not only required to convey messages effectively but also to understand broader contexts, interests, and relationships,” said Zulfikar.
His academic work at the master’s level, which examined the role of digital marketing and customer relationship management on brand image and consumer loyalty, has further strengthened the professional approach he applies in the hospitality and manufacturing industries.
Through his experience, Zulfikar encourages FISIP UNDIP students to use their study period as a space for cross-disciplinary exploration, build tangible portfolios, and hone strategic communication skills grounded in analysis and academic ethics. He believes that adaptive character and critical thinking are the main strengths of FISIP UNDIP graduates amidst the rapidly changing industrial landscape.
