FISIP Undip Alumni Success Story: Driving Integrity and Professionalism of Civil Servants in Bureaucratic Reform

Semarang, December 4, 2025 — The Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP), Diponegoro University, once again held the FISIP Undip Alumni Success Story program, an inspirational event exploring study journeys, early career struggles, and alumni contributions across various strategic fields. In this edition, FISIP Undip featured Adelia Prihastuti, S.I.P., an alumna of the Government Studies program, class of 2015 (graduated 2019), who currently serves as an Apparatus Human Resources Analyst at the Semarang District Court, Supreme Court of the Republic of Indonesia.

In an interview session with host Rifka Resi Pawestri, Adelia expressed both nostalgia and pride at returning to campus after six years. She recalled the academic atmosphere that shaped her fighting spirit, while also appreciating the increasingly modern facilities and learning environment.

Career Journey: From Journalist to Civil Servant at the Supreme Court of the Republic of Indonesia
Adelia shared that after graduating in August 2019, she briefly started her career as a journalist at a media outlet. However, the 2019 CPNS (Civil Servant) recruitment opportunity led her to make a major decision: resigning to focus on her preparation. The challenge was heightened by the selection process taking place during the COVID-19 pandemic, which extended the intervals between selection stages and demanded consistent preparation.

Interestingly, Adelia conveyed that the Supreme Court was not initially her first choice. Driven by an interest in anti-corruption issues and a desire to contribute to a system upholding integrity, she chose a career path at the Supreme Court of the Republic of Indonesia. She applied for the Apparatus Human Resources Analyst (ASDM) position through the cum laude pathway—a highly competitive track with very limited quotas and fierce competition across various disciplines. Through the Basic Competency Selection (SKD) and Field Competency Selection (SKB) stages, which she undertook with discipline, thoroughness, and a calm mindset, Adelia succeeded in achieving outstanding results.

Academic Foundation: Anti-Corruption Policy and Merit System
Adelia also highlighted her most memorable academic experience during college, particularly the Anti-Corruption Policy course, which she believes shaped her values and career orientation. In her current job, Adelia emphasizes the importance of maintaining integrity, professionalism, and the merit system in apparatus human resource management.

As an Apparatus Human Resources Analyst, Adelia’s scope of work includes promotions, retirement, disciplinary enforcement, as well as promotions and transfers of judges and staff. She noted that this work requires high precision and assertiveness grounded in ethics and regulations. In practice, apparatus human resources cannot be separated from potential conflicts of interest, making personal integrity and adherence to regulations the main foundations.

Message for Students: Master the Regulations, Build Integrity, and Communicate Effectively
In the insight session, Adelia shared three essential skills for students, especially those in Government Studies, who wish to pursue a career in the public sector:

  1. The ability to read and understand regulations (Government Regulations, Ministerial Regulations, SOPs) quickly and accurately.

  2. Integrity and professionalism to handle pressures and temptations in the workplace.

  3. Effective cross-generational communication, particularly within a bureaucracy intersecting with digitalization and evolving work culture dynamics.

She also expressed her hope that the FISIP Undip alumni network would become more solid through inspiring programs like the Alumni Success Story, enabling students to gain a realistic picture of diverse alumni career paths and encouraging them to contribute to better bureaucratic reform.

Concluding the interview session, Adelia left a strong message for students: university is not just about GPA, but the process of building patient, committed, and resilient character. She emphasized the courage to keep doing what is right, maintaining honesty, and staying humble in every phase of life.

The FISIP Undip Alumni Success Story program is expected to continue serving as a bridge of inspiration, strengthening alumni networks, and providing an intergenerational learning space for the academic community to expand the impact of FISIP Undip for society and the nation.
