Semarang, November 28, 2025 — The Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP), Diponegoro University, once again presented the FISIP Undip Alumni Success Story program, an inspirational space exploring the academic journeys, careers, and contributions of alumni in various strategic sectors. In this edition, FISIP Undip featured Basmar Perianto Amron, a Commissioner of the General Election Commission (KPU) of Central Java Province, Division of Planning and Logistics, and an alumnus of the Government Studies program at FISIP Undip, class of 1987.
In a warm and reflective conversation, Basmar Perianto Amron shared his journey from studying at FISIP Undip to his current role as an election organizer at the provincial level. He expressed his pride as a FISIP Undip alumnus while also appreciating the rapid development of the campus, in terms of facilities, the academic environment, and learning media innovations such as campus podcasts.
Basmar recounted that his career path was not linear. After graduating in the early 1990s, he briefly worked in the private sector as a marketing personnel and in construction services. The reform era was a turning point that sparked his interest in electoral issues, which later led him to get involved as the Chair of KPPS (Polling Station Working Committee), a member of Panwaslu (Election Supervisory Committee), before eventually becoming a member of the City KPU and later continuing to the Central Java Provincial KPU in 2023.
As a Commissioner of the Central Java Provincial KPU, Basmar emphasized that the main task of election organizers is not only related to the technical stages of elections and regional head elections (Pilkada) but also to maintaining the quality of democracy sustainably. These efforts are carried out through institutional strengthening, capacity building of election organizers, voter education, and active community involvement in all democratic processes. According to him, the quality of voters greatly determines the quality of elections.
In an academic reflection session, Basmar remembered his favorite courses during his time in Government Studies, particularly those related to political science such as Introduction to Political Science, Indonesian Political System, and Comparative Politics. He also emphasized that although he was not active in intra-campus organizations, academic discussions, reading activities, and involvement in youth activities were important assets in shaping his thinking patterns and communication skills.
Furthermore, Basmar stressed the importance of self-confidence and communication skills as key competencies that students need to develop to enter the professional world. According to him, the process of interacting, listening, and understanding others is often more determining than mere academic achievement.
Regarding the strengthening of the alumni’s role, Basmar encouraged FISIP Undip to continue enhancing its community service programs, collaborative research, and alumni networks through the FISIP Alumni Association. He believes that the alumni network is a strategic strength that can expand FISIP Undip’s contribution to society, government, and the development of democracy.
Concluding the conversation, Basmar delivered a motivational message to FISIP Undip students: to focus on their studies, balance academics and organizational activities, and realize that every process they go through will always provide valuable experiences and lessons for the future.
The FISIP Undip Alumni Success Story program is expected to continue serving as an inspiration space, value transfer, and network strengthening between alumni, students, and the academic community in supporting the vision of FISIP Undip as a center for the development of social and political sciences that have an impact on society.
