Semarang — The Faculty of Social and Political Sciences at Diponegoro University (FISIP Undip) once again organized the FISIP Undip Alumni Success Story program, a forum for sharing inspiration that features alumni who share their experiences transitioning from campus life to the professional world.
In this episode, the program featured Rizka Ciptaningsih, an alumna of the FISIP Undip Public Administration Study Program, class of 2015, who currently works as a Civil Servant (ASN) for the Central Java Provincial Government and is a member of the Implementing Information and Documentation Management Officer (PPID) Team at the Central Java Provincial Regional Personnel Agency (BKD).
During the podcast session, Rizka discussed her career journey since graduating from FISIP Undip to her direct involvement in managing public information within the government bureaucracy. She emphasized that the world of work, especially the public sector, demands more than just technical skills; it requires integrity, meticulousness, and a sense of responsibility towards the public interest.
“The knowledge gained in Public Administration is not just about policy or administrative theory; it also shapes a systematic, ethical, and service-oriented mindset,” stated Rizka.
The Relevance of Public Administration in the Workplace
Rizka explained that courses related to government administration, organizational communication, and regulatory understanding form a crucial foundation for her current work. Her academic experience at FISIP Undip also helped her understand bureaucratic workflows and decision-making dynamics in the public sector.
Furthermore, she noted that involvement in campus activities and student organizations played a significant role in developing soft skills such as teamwork, time management, and the readiness to handle work pressure.
Challenges for Civil Servants in the Era of Information Openness
As part of the PPID Implementing Team, Rizka highlighted the challenges of managing public information in the digital era. Information openness requires civil servants to work transparently, quickly, and accurately, while still adhering to legal and bureaucratic ethical boundaries.
“Information literacy is a key competency for civil servants. A small error in conveying information can have wide-ranging impacts, so precision and regulatory understanding are extremely important,” she explained.
Message for FISIP Undip Students
Concluding the Alumni Success Story session, Rizka advised FISIP Undip students to start building a professional character from their time at university. She encouraged students to actively seek out experiences, hone their communication skills, and not hesitate to consider a career in the public sector.
“For Public Administration students, the government sector is a vast space for actualization. If pursued with commitment and integrity, a civil service career can be both a path of public service and personal development,” she concluded.
The FISIP Undip Alumni Success Story program is expected to strengthen alumni networks, provide students with a realistic picture of the working world, and affirm the role of alumni as part of the continuous learning ecosystem at FISIP Undip.
