As a commitment to fostering a critical and reflective atmosphere in the academic environment, the International Relations Student Association of Diponegoro University (HMPS HI UNDIP), through its Media and Technology Division, officially held a Movie Observation (MOVSERVATION) event on October 26, 2025, with the theme “The Red Omen” at the FISIP UNDIP Theater Room. This program is designed to foster students’ interest in social, political, and humanitarian issues raised through film media, while also serving as a means of reflection and contextual learning. Through MOVSERVATION 2025, students are not only invited to watch, but also to discuss openly the issues raised. In this way, students are trained to think critically and analytically, as well as to develop awareness of social and political issues.
MOVSERVATION 2025 screened a documentary film titled “Pulau Buru Tanah Air Beta”, which tells the dark history of Indonesia after the events that occurred in 1965. The documentary showed the dark side of the government in terms of human rights violations. After the screening, the event continued with a presentation from speakers who explored the content and provided arguments related to the film.
The arguments presented by the speakers succeeded in encouraging participants to think more critically about the issues being discussed. The participants’ critical thinking was conveyed in an interactive discussion session with the speakers. In this discussion, various perspectives and reflections emerged, creating a warm and insightful dialogue. The speakers’ answers were not only in-depth analyses of the issues discussed, but also calls to raise awareness that students have privileges that others do not have. The speakers delivered a persuasive message encouraging students to use their privileges to help communities whose voices are not heard.
MOVSERVATION 2025 received a positive response from the audience. The participants’ enthusiasm was evident in their active participation during the discussion. This discussion was made even more engaging by the speaker, Ilman Nurfathan, a student of the Faculty of Law at Diponegoro University. The discussion, moderated by the speaker, successfully brought issues of human rights violations to a deeper academic level.

With the implementation of MOVSERVATION 2025, it is expected to be a milestone in raising awareness of the importance of students being aware of issues that are often overlooked. In addition, this activity is also expected to become a sustainable annual program of HMPS HI which continues to encourage students to think critically and progressively.
