Universitas Diponegoro, 29 September 2025. The Department of International Relations at Universitas Diponegoro once again presented an inspiring figure in the Alumni Teaching activity entitled ‘Embassy Life Unfolded: Navigating Careers in Diplomatic Missions.’ In this session, Cici Afriani Jamal, S.Sos, shared her experiences regarding the various dynamics of life in the diplomatic world, from the work rhythm behind embassy walls to the importance of building effective and empathetic cross-cultural communication. Her presence offered a fresh perspective for International Relations students on the realities of international careers, which demand professionalism, precision, and the ability to understand the complexities of international relations in greater depth.

As an alumnus of the International Relations programme at Diponegoro University, class of 2018, who completed his studies in 2022, he has pursued a professional career in several state institutions such as the Indonesian House of Representatives, the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Central Java Governor’s Office, where he has been heavily involved in policy research, public diplomacy, and inter-agency coordination. Ultimately, each experience he has undergone has enriched his analytical acumen and fostered resilience within him to tackle challenges across sectors and cultures.

Currently, Cici Afriani Jamal serves as Public Relations Manager at the Embassy of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in Jakarta. In this capacity, she is responsible for managing strategic communications, strengthening the institutional image, and ensuring that all diplomatic cooperation is conducted in a spirit of mutual respect and collaboration. For International Relations students, Cici Afriani Jamal’s journey serves as a reflection that studying International Relations is not merely about theory and concepts, but about how that knowledge is realised in real work in the global arena. Through her story, she reminds us that diplomacy is an intellectual and moral journey, as well as a dedication that demands integrity, empathy, and commitment to represent Indonesia on the international stage proudly.
