SEMARANG – The Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) at Diponegoro University has officially launched its Waste Management Volunteers as a strategic step toward realizing a clean, healthy, and sustainable campus environment.

The event, held on Friday (5/12/25) at the FISIP Undip Campus Basketball Field, was attended by faculty leadership, lecturers, administrative staff, the Healthy Campus Unit, the FISIP Student Executive Board (BEM), and student representatives.

The Dean of FISIP UNDIP, Dr. Drs. Teguh Yuwono, M.Pol.Admin., officially inaugurated the launch of the FISIP UNDIP Waste Management Volunteers, which was also witnessed by the Head of the Occupational Health, Safety, and Environment Unit (UPT K3L) of Diponegoro University, Dr. Bina Kurniawan, S.KM., M.Kes.

This program is a collaboration between the FISIP Undip Healthy Campus Unit and the FISIP Undip Student Executive Board (BEM), positioning students as the frontline agents for behavioral change regarding waste management on campus.

In his address, Dean of FISIP Undip Dr. Drs. Teguh Yuwono, M.Pol.Admin., stated that waste management is not merely a technical issue but also reflects the culture and awareness of the academic community.

“The launch of the Waste Management Volunteers is our collective commitment to preserving the environment. The waste problem is not just about where it is disposed of, but how we change habits and ways of thinking. Students have a strategic role as agents of change, starting from their immediate environment,” said the Dean of FISIP.

He also emphasized that collaboration between the faculty and students is a powerful force in driving sustainable change. “We hope this program becomes a consistent and impactful collaborative movement,” he added.

The Head of UPT K3L Undip, Dr. Bina Kurniawan, S.KM., M.Kes., appreciated FISIP UNDIP’s initiative in involving students in waste management volunteer activities. “FISIP UNDIP is the first faculty to launch waste management volunteers at the faculty level. Hopefully, this can inspire others and is a great program,” he explained.

Meanwhile, the Vice Chairperson of BEM FISIP Undip 2025, Satrio Gilang, also conveyed a message to all attending students. He emphasized that environmental movements cannot succeed without active student participation.

“Amid increasing environmental challenges, students must become the frontline agents of change, not only through ideas but also through concrete actions. Let us make this activity the beginning of a new culture at FISIP: a culture of care, responsibility, and stewardship of the earth,” Gilang explained.

In addition to the volunteer launch, the event also featured a joint morning exercise session and the Integrated Non-Communicable Diseases Post (Posbindu PTM) service, allowing the academic community to undergo basic health check-ups and early detection of non-communicable disease risks.

The Head of the FISIP UNDIP Healthy Campus Unit, Agne Yasa, S.I.Kom., M.A., stated that this activity is part of FISIP Undip’s efforts to build a campus community that is not only environmentally conscious but also highly aware of health and fitness.

“Exercise sessions and the Posbindu PTM are routine activities conducted by the Healthy Campus Unit for early health detection. Through these activities, we encourage all members of the FISIP community to better understand their health conditions and adopt healthy lifestyles as part of campus culture,” he explained.

With the launch of the Waste Management Volunteers, FISIP Undip reaffirms its commitment to continuously involve students in environmental sustainability initiatives. This program is expected to be the initial step toward establishing a campus culture that is more orderly, healthy, and environmentally responsible.
