Public Governance Research Group Presents Taiwanese Professor in Visiting Professor Online 2025: Strengthening Cross-Sector Governance, Civil Society, and International Research Collaboration

Semarang, August 20, 2025 – The Public Governance Research Group (KBK Governansi Publik), Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP), Diponegoro University, successfully organized the Visiting Professor Online 2025 as part of UNDIP’s World Class University (WCU) program. This activity featured Prof. José Chiu-C. Chen from the Department of Public Management and Policy, Tunghai University, Taiwan, and Prof. Dr. Dra. Hartuti Purnaweni, MPA from the Department of Public Administration, FISIP UNDIP, who also serves as the Head of the Public Governance Research Group, under the theme “Cross-Sector Governance and the Strengthening of Civil Society: Lessons from Indonesia and Taiwan.”

The online event, conducted via the Zoom platform, was opened by the Dean of FISIP UNDIP and attended by over 125 participants, consisting of undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral students, lecturers, as well as academic partners from within and outside the country.

In his lecture, Prof. José Chen emphasized the importance of cross-sector governance practices in Taiwan, which can serve as an inspiration for the Indonesian context, particularly in strengthening the role of civil society and urban governance. Meanwhile, Prof. Hartuti Purnaweni presented on “Environmental Governance in Indonesia: Cases in Urban Development,” highlighting the challenges and opportunities in environmental management in Indonesian cities.

The interactive discussion between speakers and participants generated new insights and preliminary plans for collaborative research between Prof. José Chen and FISIP UNDIP lecturers.

“The presence of Prof. José Chiu-C. Chen enriches the academic insights of the FISIP UNDIP academic community while opening broader avenues for international collaboration. This is a strategic step in strengthening UNDIP’s position toward becoming a World Class University,” said the event committee member, Nilam Adini, S.A.P., M.A.P.

The event ran smoothly and provided tangible benefits for the academic community and international partners. The Visiting Professor Online 2025 serves as proof of FISIP UNDIP’s commitment to continuously strengthening academic capacity, expanding global networks, and enhancing contributions toward achieving the QS World University Rankings Top 500 for the 2025–2029 period.
