Semarang, October 25, 2025 — The challenges of public governance in the digital era took center stage at the National Seminar and Annual Meeting of KAPSIPI and ADIPSI 2025, held on Saturday (25/10) at the Auditorium of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP), Universitas Diponegoro. The national-scale event carried the theme “Digital and Sustainable Governance, Policy, and Politics in the Public Sector” and brought together leading scholars and public policy practitioners from universities across Indonesia and abroad.
This annual gathering, organized by the Indonesian Government Studies Program Association (KAPSIPI) in collaboration with the Indonesian Government Studies Lecturers Association (ADIPSI), aims to strengthen inter-program collaboration and update the direction of government studies education and research amidst the growing digital ecosystem and the demands of sustainable development.
In his opening remarks, Dr. Teguh Yuwono, M.Pol.Admin, Dean of FISIP Undip, emphasized that the digital era has transformed nearly every aspect of life, including higher education. “Lecturers must remain adaptive to the latest developments so that the knowledge we deliver stays relevant,” he stated.
The seminar reflected a growing awareness that, in recent decades, all stakeholders are being challenged to create a sustainable model of public sector governance—one that does not worsen the ongoing ecological crises. Dr. Uday Chatterjee of Vidyasagar University, India, highlighted the crucial role of academics in conducting and publishing research on economic, social, and environmental issues to inform public decision-making, so that development not only benefits the present, but also the interests of future generations. “This is essential because today we urgently need many ‘sustainability solutions’ to respond to the various crises we face,” he asserted.
Meanwhile, Prof. Dr. Achmad Nurmandi, M.Sc., a digital governance expert and Rector of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta, noted that the field of Government Studies has evolved dramatically. The rise of AI, social media, and cybersecurity concerns has pushed the discipline to expand its scope in response to emerging public sector challenges. “Lecturers and researchers in Government Studies must produce new findings and theories to address these developments,” he remarked.
The seminar was attended by dozens of heads of study programs and hundreds of Government Studies lecturers from various universities across Indonesia. Participants discussed strategies for teaching, research, and academic collaboration to strengthen governance capacity in the digital age. The event concluded with the national annual meeting of KAPSIPI and ADIPSI, which addressed institutional agendas and outlined future organizational directions.
