The Importance of Understanding Sexual Violence Prevention and Handling: A Talk Show on Media Literacy, PPKS Socialization, and Ruang Berbagi Hati at Undip

Semarang (04/26) – A deep understanding of prevention and handling of sexual violence (Pencegahan dan Penanganan Kekerasan Seksual/PPKS) took centre stage in a Talk Show event held at Universitas Diponegoro (Undip) on Friday, April 26, 2024. This event was the result of collaboration between the Dharma Wanita Persatuan (DWP) of Undip and the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) of Undip, located in the Auditorium on the 3rd Floor of Building A at the FISIP Undip Campus in Tembalang.

The event was opened by the Dean of FISIP Undip, Dr. Drs. Teguh Yuwono, M.Pol.Admin, marking the beginning of the DWP Sahabat Kampus Talk Show. Several experts in their fields were present as speakers, including Dr. Hastaning Sakti, M.Kes. (Psychologist, Chair of the PPKS Task Force at Undip), Mrs. Asih Budiastuti, S.H., C.N. (Commissioner of the Central Java Broadcasting Commission (KPID) and Chair of DWP Undip), Mrs. Ari Yusmindarsih, S.S., M.I.Kom. (Commissioner of KPID Central Java), and Mrs. Dewi Widayani, S.H., S.Pd. (PPKS Volunteer of DWP Undip).

Mrs. Asih Budiastuti, S.H., C.N., as the Chair of DWP Undip, introduced the concept of Ruang Berbagi Hati, which could be used by anyone to discuss personal issues that would be kept confidential. She also introduced the DWP Sahabat Kampus Program as a platform for expressing complaints and suggestions. In her address, she said, “Dear students, consider us, the Dharma Wanita Persatuan mothers from the Faculty level to the top, consider us as all of your mothers. So whenever there are experiences, things that are lacking, or things that disturb you, they can be conveyed to us.”

Meanwhile, Dr. Teguh Yuwono, Dean of FISIP Undip, expressed his hope that the socialization of PPKS and Ruang Berbagi Hati would make a significant contribution to collective progress, considering the many issues faced by students.

Furthermore, the main focus of the Talk Show was on understanding sexual violence. Dr. Hasta explained the types of sexual violence, prevention methods, handling procedures, and factors influencing sexual violence. He also provided an understanding of Consent FRIES to the participants, stating firmly, “Silence is not consent.”

Additionally, Mrs. Asih provided Initial PPKS ToT (Training of Trainers) with material related to Strengthening the Function & Role of DWP PTN/LLDIKTI in PPKS. She explained that the DWP Sahabat Kampus movement was expected to strengthen women’s roles in building human resources, Pancasila-oriented students, who were excellent and accomplished through the creation of a campus that was safe and free from sexual violence.

The emphasis on protecting women in media consumption was also highlighted by Mrs. Ari Yusmindarsih, Commissioner of KPID Central Java, who urged Talk Show participants to wisely manage their TV consumption patterns. Meanwhile, Mrs. Dewi Widayani provided an understanding of DWP’s role in implementing the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Regulation regarding PPKS through the DWP Sahabat Kampus Program, expected to be a partner for students in creating a safe and comfortable campus environment for the growth of the golden generation.
