Civanda Adi Putri, a student of the Government Science Study Program at Universitas Diponegoro, as well as a member of the Diponegoro Theater, had won first place in the Poetry Reading Contest organized by the Aksara Event Organizer, Office Administration Education Study Program, Faculty of Economics, Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta.

“So this competition is titled Glittering Literature 2021 Dialectics Romance; One Word with Millions of Meanings with National Level Poetry Reading and Poetry Writing Competition activities as well as Online Talkshow organized by UNY. The goal is to increase creativity, self-confidence and develop the imagination, ideas of the young generation of Indonesia. It is followed by high school / vocational students and students throughout Indonesia. While, the announcement of the winners was on June 13, 2021 yesterday,” she said.

“I brought a poem called Tapi by Sutardji Calzoum Bachri, I think this poem has a very deep meaning and describes a conflict between two people where one of them struggles but the struggle is not appreciated or has no meaning. This poem is full of images of extraordinary sadness. So, I try to totally animate and be a part of the story in it. I practised for about a week. So, I could really live it,” she said.

Civinda had known the world of poetry since elementary school. The support from the people around her made her love poetry even more. Poetry for her was not just a hobby but had become part of her identity. She became more confident when reading poetry.

“Since elementary school, I have participated in various non-academic competitions, especially in the arts. Before college, I participated in a storytelling competition and went to the national level. I also joined a poetry reading competition Against Corruption organized by LPSBB Theatre Tubuh Purwokerto, and participated in a district-level student theatre competition and won 2nd place. While at this university, I participated in a poetry reading competition in FISIP MARS 2021 and became the best winner for reading women’s poetry. Then, I had the opportunity to take part in the Diponegoro Art Competition 2021 in the poetry reading category,” she explained.

“Every individual has their own potential, strengths, and talents. It’s just how we manage and try to make the potential that exists within us to be an opportunity to succeed. Don’t be afraid to try and don’t be afraid to fail. Sometimes, the thing that most often prevents us from becoming a successful person is pessimism and a fear of trying. We must remain optimistic and believe that the talent or potential within us, both in the academic and non-academic fields, will bring benefits in our lives,” she said to the younger generation.
