Semarang, November 28, 2025 — The Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) at Diponegoro University once again presented the FISIP Undip Alumni Success Story program, an inspirational space that explores the academic journeys, careers, and contributions of alumni across various strategic sectors. In this edition, FISIP Undip featured Basmar Perianto Amron, a Commissioner of the Central Java Provincial General Elections Commission (KPU) in the Planning and Logistics Division, and also an alumnus of the Government Science program at FISIP Undip, class of 1987.

In a warm and reflective conversation, Basmar Perianto Amron shared the story of his journey from his studies at FISIP Undip to his current role as an election organizer at the provincial level. He expressed his pride as a FISIP Undip alumnus, while also appreciating the university’s rapid development in terms of facilities, academic environment, and learning media innovations such as campus podcasts.

Basmar recounted that his career path was not linear. After graduating in the early 1990s, he built a career in the private sector, working in marketing and the construction services field. The momentum of the Reformasi (Reformation) era became a turning point, sparking his interest in electoral issues. This eventually led him to become involved as a Chairman of the Polling Station Working Committee (KPPS), a member of the Elections Supervisory Committee (Panwaslu), and finally, a member of the City KPU, before advancing to the Central Java Provincial KPU in 2023.

As a Commissioner of the Central Java Provincial KPU, Basmar emphasized that the main duties of election organizers are not only related to the technical stages of elections and regional head elections but also involve sustaining the quality of democracy. These efforts are carried out through institutional strengthening, capacity building for organizers, voter education, and the active involvement of the community in the entire democratic process. According to him, the quality of voters is what ultimately determines the quality of elections.

In the academic reflection session, Basmar recalled his favorite courses during his Government Science studies, particularly those related to political science, such as Introduction to Political Science, Indonesian Political System, and Comparative Politics. He also emphasized that while he was not active in intra-campus organizations, academic discussions, reading activities, and involvement in youth activities were crucial foundations in shaping his mindset and communication skills.

Furthermore, Basmar stressed the importance of self-confidence and communication skills as primary competencies that students need to develop to enter the workforce. In his view, the process of interaction, listening, and understanding others often proves more decisive than academic achievements alone.

Regarding strengthening the alumni’s role, Basmar encouraged FISIP Undip to continue enhancing community service programs, collaborative research, and alumni networking through the FISIP Alumni Association (IKA). He considers the alumni network a strategic force that can expand FISIP Undip’s contributions to society, government, and democratic development.

Concluding the conversation, Basmar conveyed a motivational message to FISIP Undip students: to go through their studies with focus, balancing academics and organizational activities, and to be aware that every process they undergo will always provide valuable experience and lessons for the future.

The FISIP Undip Alumni Success Story program is expected to continue serving as a space for inspiration, value transfer, and network strengthening among alumni, students, and the academic community in supporting FISIP Undip’s vision as a center for developing social and political sciences that create an impact on society.
