PEMALANG – As a tangible manifestation of concern for labor justice in the maritime sector, a group of SDGs students affiliated with Mobilizing Action for Rights of Nautical Workers (MARINA) carried out a strategic initiative at the Lawangrejo Village Hall, Pemalang Regency, on Sunday (11/23/2025). This program is part of the 2025 World Class University agenda of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP), Diponegoro University, which aims to integrate protection standards for maritime workers with global sustainable development targets.
The MARINA initiative was established to address the vulnerability challenges faced by nautical workers in coastal areas by strengthening literacy on workers’ rights and mobilizing collective action at the grassroots level. By selecting Lawangrejo Village as the focal point, FISIP UNDIP students provided direct assistance to ensure the creation of a safe and dignified working environment for local sailors and fishermen.
This step was taken as a concrete implementation of SDG Point 8, which is to promote inclusive and sustainable economic growth, employment, and decent work for all. By advocating for legal protection and fair labor standards, the MARINA group seeks to ensure that maritime workers are not only economic drivers but also receive guaranteed equal rights, aiming for a more prosperous and sustainable Indonesian maritime ecosystem.
