Semarang – In the spirit of service and social awareness, the International Relations Study Program Student Association (HMPS HI) of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Diponegoro University, is once again holding its annual HI Mengajar 2025 programme with the theme ‘Bahru el Ikhlas’. The programme runs from Monday, 15 September to Thursday, 25 September 2025, with a series of teaching activities held at two locations, namely the Manarul Mabrur Orphanage and the YBMI Semarang Orphanage.
This activity, initiated by the Community Service Division of HMPS HI, was attended by 34 participants, consisting of committee members and student volunteers. The HI Teaching programme provides a platform for students to apply the values of community service while developing their communication and social empathy skills directly in the environment of the children at the orphanage.
The activities began with a work programme briefing held at the FISIP UNDIP Diplomacy Laboratory on Monday, 15 September 2025. During this session, the committee and volunteers received technical training in teaching, classroom simulations, motivational sessions, and interactive case studies. The briefing was designed to ensure that participants were ready to teach using fun and educational methods.
Entering the implementation stage, teaching activities were conducted during four meetings at two orphanages. On the first day (Tuesday, 16 September), at the Manarul Mabrur Orphanage, the children were invited to interact through Get to Know Each Other and Lingkar Ceria sessions, which combined educational games and interactive activities. The aim was to build rapport between the volunteers and the children, thereby creating a warm and friendly learning atmosphere.
The activity continued into its second day (Thursday, 18 September) at the YBMI Orphanage. With a similar concept but different material, the children were again invited to play while learning through Get to Know Each Other Vol. 2 and Lingkar Ceria Vol. 2. The focus of this activity was to strengthen a sense of togetherness and practise social skills through group games.
On the third day (Tuesday, 23 September), teaching sessions were held again at the Manarul Mabrur Orphanage with the theme ‘Dream Big, Little Steps.’ The children were encouraged to dare to dream and have high aspirations, followed by a ‘Let’s Talk Global!’ session that introduced simple and fun everyday foreign vocabulary. This session served as a first step in broadening their horizons to the outside world and the value of global diversity.
The series of activities concluded on Thursday, 25 September 2025, at the YBMI Orphanage with a session entitled ‘HI Teaching: My Dream Map’, where the children wrote down their aspirations and presented them in front of their friends. The event also featured a Worldwide Quiz, which included group-based foreign language guessing games. This moment symbolised the pinnacle of the spirit of learning, camaraderie, and self-confidence instilled throughout the programme.
The Executive Chair of HI Mengajar 2025, in his statement, said that this activity is not only about teaching, but also about learning together: “Through HI Mengajar, we learn to share sincerely and understand life from the perspective of children who are full of enthusiasm and sincerity.”
With the implementation of this programme, the Community Service Division of HMPS HI FISIP UNDIP hopes that the HI Teaching activity can continue to be a forum for social learning for students and have a positive impact on children in orphanages. The value of Bahru el Ikhlas, which means an ocean of sincerity, is expected not only to be limited to the implementation of activities, but also to become a spirit that continues in every humanitarian action taken by students.
