The Student Press Organisation (LPM) OPINI of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) at Universitas Diponegoro (Undip) held an OPINI Media Visit event on Monday (05/05) at the Jawa Pos Radar Semarang Office. The event was attended by 55 participants, including members of LPM OPINI and student representatives from FISIP Undip.
This activity is part of the work programme of the Public Relations Division of LPM OPINI to strengthen the capacity of members as student journalists through direct learning in the professional media industry. Jawa Pos Radar Semarang was chosen because of its position as one of the mainstream media outlets in Central Java with experience in managing local, regional and national news coverage.
During the series of activities, participants were invited to tour the editorial office to observe the journalistic workflow, from the planning stage of coverage to the process of writing news articles, editing, and distributing content to both print and digital media. Participants also had the opportunity to discuss the history of Radar Semarang with the editorial staff of Radar Semarang, as well as the challenges faced by the mass media in the face of digital disruption and changes in public information consumption patterns.
The General Leader of LPM OPINI 2025, Davino Krisna Hernawan, said that this activity was a valuable opportunity for all members to learn directly from professional journalism practices.
“This activity is not just about seeing how the media works, but also opening our eyes to how news is compiled, how information moves, and how the press remains relevant amid the dynamics of the times. Hopefully, this experience can inspire us all to continue working, be more critical, and produce journalistic works that are beneficial to the campus and the wider community,” said Davino in his speech on Monday (05/05).
In addition, this activity was also intended to expand LPM OPINI’s network with professional media outlets. Through this visit, it is hoped that a good relationship will be established between LPM OPINI and Radar Semarang so that productive collaboration opportunities can be created in the future.
With the implementation of the OPINI Media Visit, LPM OPINI affirms its commitment to not only being a forum for journalism training on campus, but also a bridge for students to understand the real practices of the media world. Through this direct experience, participants are expected to become more sensitive to social issues, adaptable to developments in information technology, and responsible for overseeing the role of the student press on campus and in the wider community.***
