The Student Press Institution (Lembaga Pers Mahasiswa or LPM) OPINI of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) at Universitas Diponegoro (Undip) held a Basic Journalism Training with the theme “Writing with Excellence, Managing with Precision” on Saturday (26/04) in Room B.102 of the FISIP Undip Tembalang Campus. The event was attended by 65 participants, consisting of internal LPM OPINI members and representatives from other LPMs within Universitas Diponegoro.
The event was officially opened by the Advisory Lecturer of LPM OPINI, Agne Yasa, S.I.Kom., M.A. In her address, she appreciated LPM OPINI’s initiative in enhancing journalistic competence and the governance of the student press organization.
The training featured two main speakers. The first was Muhammad Nur Rohman, S.I.Kom., M.I.Kom., a lecturer in Communication and Digital Journalism at Universitas Semarang and a Freelance Journalist at SEA Today News, who presented material on the “Fundamentals of Journalism.” The second speaker was Fauzan Haidar Ramadan, the Former Chief Editor of LPM OPINI for 2024, who delivered a presentation on “Media Organization Management.” The event was moderated by Siti Aisyah, a student of Communication Science at Undip and the 2024 Wardah Youth Ambassador.
In addition to the presentation sessions, participants also took part in a direct, straight news writing practice to sharpen their basic journalistic technical skills. The activity continued with a Forum Group Discussion (FGD) designed to train problem-solving skills in the context of managing student media organizations. This group discussion served as an interactive space for participants to simulate real situations and collaboratively formulate solutions to the issues presented by the committee.
In his address, the 2025 Chief Editor of LPM OPINI, Davino Krisna Hernawan, emphasized that this training focused not only on the technical aspects of news writing or organizational management but also on critical values and social awareness.
“It is hoped that this training is not merely about the technicalities of writing news or organizational management, but also becomes a space for us, the student press, to be more sensitive, more critical, and more caring about what is happening around us,” he stated in his speech on Saturday (26/04).
With the implementation of this training, it is expected that participants will not only leave with notes but also carry a new spirit to continue growing as members of the student press who are sensitive, adaptive, and responsible in overseeing issues ranging from campus, regional, and national levels to global dynamics.***
