The Department of International Relations, Diponegoro University (UNDIP) Holds IRUD Summer Course 2025: Highlighting Contemporary Issues in the Scope of Transnational Crime

Semarang, August 25, 2025 – The Department of International Relations, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Diponegoro University (HI FISIP Undip) has launched the IRUD Summer Course 2025 program with the theme “Frontiers in Responses to Transnational Organized Crime.” The online opening ceremony was attended by members of the FISIP Undip academic community, including IR Undip lecturers, along with participants from various countries such as France, Malaysia, Ukraine, and Yemen.

The event, which began at 10:30 a.m. and continued until noon, opened with a welcoming speech by Dr. Teguh Yuwono S, M.Pol. Admin, the Dean of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) at Diponegoro University (Undip), welcomed the attendees, who came from diverse nationalities but shared the academic enthusiasm for participating in the IRUD Summer Course 2025. He also highlighted the importance of discourse on Transnational Crime as a complex global challenge and hoped that participants would be inspired to actively engage in the discussions.

“We hope this program will not only enrich the participants’ academic knowledge but also inspire them to develop solutions to future global challenges,” he emphasized.

The opening was followed by a presentation by Muhammad Faiq Adi Pratomo, S.I.P., M.Sc., a lecturer in International Relations at Diponegoro University and the program coordinator. He provided a brief overview of the discussion topics, including transnational crime in the context of regime populism, climate change, global migration, and evolving patterns of deviance and crime. He also outlined the program’s focus, which focuses on exploring perceptions of crime and deviance, discussing related topics, and fostering active participation from all participants to exchange perspectives.

“The class format will be divided into two interactive sessions with different speakers at each meeting, led by a moderator, in the hope of sparking collaboration between speakers and participants,” he added.

The Department of International Relations, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Diponegoro University, also collaborates with international universities and academics to share their expertise with participants. The IRUD Summer Course 2025 will also feature Prof. Valeria Paganizza from the University of Parma, Prof. Gianmarco Bondi from the University of Ferrara, Dr. Noor Huda Ismail from the S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies (RSIS), Dr. Luh N. R. Kabinawa from the University of Western Australia, and Dr. Phil. Retno Widyastuti from the University of Ludwigsburg, each of whom will stimulate discussion on contemporary issues within the scope of transnational crime.

The IRUD Summer Course 2025 discussion program series will last for 4 days from August 26 to August 29, 2025. At the end of the discussion session, participants will create an essay as a final project that will be collected in September, the best work will be announced at the closing event which will be held on September 25, 2025.
