Semarang (29/10) – Publications on community service have become a crucial tool in advancing Universitas Diponegoro (Undip)’s goal to rank among the world’s top 400 universities, while also supporting its commitment to addressing key issues such as poverty alleviation and food security. As part of this effort, the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) at Undip, through its Research and Community Service Development Unit (UP3), organized a Workshop on Writing Community Service Publications in Accredited Journals, themed “Strategies for Writing & Getting Published in Accredited Community Service Journals,” held online on Tuesday, October 29, 2024. The workshop was attended by FISIP faculty members and featured Dr. A. Zulfa Juniarto, M.Si.Med., Sp.And., Ph.D., Vice Head for Community Service at the Research and Community Service Institute (LPPM) Undip, as the main speaker.

In his opening remarks, Dr. Drs. Teguh Yuwono, M.Pol.Admin., Dean of FISIP Undip, expressed his hope that the workshop would strengthen the achievement of Key Performance Indicators (KPI) in the fields of research and community service publication. He underscored the importance of enhancing publication quality as a strategic step toward attaining a top 400 world ranking. “Today, FISIP ranks at 530. This is a significant achievement, and I hope it can continue to develop for the advancement of us all,” Dr. Teguh stated.

Dr. Teguh further conveyed his hope that the workshop would motivate faculty to contribute to Undip’s development, particularly within FISIP, by optimizing community-based scholarly work. It is expected that the workshop will not only increase the quantity of publications but also strengthen their quality, contributing meaningfully to the broader community.

Dr. A. Zulfa Juniarto, the Vice Head for Community Service at LPPM, provided insights on effective community service publication strategies, including planning a structured writing process, collaborating with teams, using strong references, avoiding predatory journals, and aligning articles with the objectives and scope of targeted journals. He also reminded participants that community service publications differ from activity reports.

Dr. Zulfa highlighted the strategic direction of community service at Undip, which primarily focuses on poverty alleviation and food security—key issues for sustainable development, particularly in Central Java. He emphasized that poverty alleviation is a top priority in sustainable development, especially in regions with high poverty rates, such as certain areas in Central Java.

The workshop also included an interactive Q&A session where participants discussed various technical aspects essential for enhancing the quality of community service publications, such as the timing of implementation, methods used, and challenges encountered in the writing process. This event is anticipated to serve as an initial step for the FISIP faculty at Undip to continue innovating in the production of scholarly work that benefits society and supports Undip’s vision as a world-class university.
