The research conducted by Titik Djumiarti, S.Sos., M.Si., titled “Accountability Assessment of Tourism Awareness Group (Pokdarwis) from Governance Paradigm (Case Study of Pokdarwis Wonderful Sangiran Indonesia)” focuses on evaluating the accountability of the Wonderful Sangiran Tourism Awareness Group (Pokdarwis) in Sragen, Indonesia. This research employs a qualitative method with an ethnographic approach, where data is gathered through participatory observation. The findings indicate that Pokdarwis’ accountability is demonstrated through a clear vision and mission, transparency in regulations, and the enhancement of democratic leadership models. The Wonderful Sangiran Pokdarwis operates on strong values of trust, responsibility, and public legitimacy.
Pokdarwis Wonderful Sangiran was established to develop tourism and improve the welfare of the communities surrounding the Sangiran conservation site. Despite organizing several activities, such as World Heritage Day celebrations and international research collaborations, the implementation of Pokdarwis has yet to reach its full potential. The activities have focused more on donor collaboration than on actual tourism development, indicating the need for improvements in organizational governance.
The study recommends enhancing Pokdarwis’ accountability by strengthening organizational structures, ensuring legal clarity, and involving more stakeholders in decision-making processes. This synergy between the government, community, and private sectors is expected to create more sustainable tourism programs. Strong accountability is anticipated to improve organizational effectiveness, build stakeholder trust, and strengthen the community’s role in preserving the cultural heritage of Sangiran.
