Semarang – A recent study published in the Jurnal Penelitian Pendidikan IPA under the title Using Digital Mind Mapping with Microsoft 365 to Improve Students’ Creative Thinking on Biology reveals significant benefits of using Microsoft 365-based digital mind mapping to enhance students’ creative thinking skills. This research was conducted to improve the quality of biology education at the high school level through a blended learning approach that fosters the development of students’ creativity.

The study, which involved 68 students from a high school in Jakarta in 2021, compared two teaching methods: an experimental class that used Microsoft 365-based mind mapping, and a control class that employed the expository method. The results showed a significant improvement in students’ creative thinking skills, particularly in originality (70.3%), flexibility (61.3%), and fluency (30%). The use of Microsoft 365-based mind mapping also enhanced classroom interaction and encouraged students to be more actively engaged in the learning process.

Technology Fostering Students’ Creativity

Mind mapping combined with Microsoft 365 platforms, such as OneNote, Microsoft Sway, and Microsoft Forms, provides students with the space to express their ideas visually, using symbols, images, colours, and attractive shapes. This method allows students the freedom to organize learning concepts more creatively and interactively. Moreover, digital mind mapping has been proven to facilitate discussions and interactions among students, encouraging them to think critically and solve problems more effectively.

Research Conclusion

This study demonstrates that Microsoft 365-based mind mapping can be an effective alternative in creating a learning environment that supports the development of students’ creative thinking skills. The use of technology in education not only improves academic outcomes but also enhances essential 21st-century skills, such as critical and creative thinking. This method allows students to be more actively involved in the learning process, both individually and in groups.
