A recent study titled “The Effectiveness of Group Guidance Services Discussion Technique ‘Cultural Meaning in the Form of Congklak Game’ to Reduce Academic Procrastination of Class X Students of SMA N 1 Sewon” reveals that group guidance services utilizing discussion techniques on the cultural significance of the Congklak game are effective in reducing academic procrastination. This study employed an experimental design with a single-group pre-experiment involving five students selected based on their pre-test scores. Using a pre-test and post-test design, the study found that the average pre-test score of 99.8 decreased to 94.8 in the post-test, reflecting an average reduction of 5 points. A paired sample t-test yielded a significant (2-tailed) value of 0.028, which is less than 0.05, proving the effectiveness of this technique.

According to the authors, the study demonstrates that integrating local cultural elements, such as the Congklak game, into group guidance sessions helps students become more disciplined in completing their academic tasks. This reduction in academic procrastination aligns with previous research suggesting that group guidance services can mitigate problems related to task avoidance or delay. The key difference in this study lies in the use of a culture-based discussion technique and the pre-experiment design involving a single-group pre-test and post-test, whereas previous studies typically employed quasi-experimental designs with control groups.

This research makes a significant contribution to educational guidance methods by emphasizing the importance of cultural approaches in addressing students’ academic problems. Discussion techniques that highlight traditional cultural values such as the game of congklak not only enrich students’ learning experience but are also effective in shaping better academic behavior. With the results of this study, it is expected that similar methods can be applied in various educational institutions to help students overcome the habit of postponing assignments and improve their academic performance.
