The visit took place on Tuesday, January 23, 2024, and was directly welcomed by the Dean of FISIP Undip, Dr. Drs. Teguh Yuwono, M.Pol.Admin.

In his address, Dr. Teguh encouraged lecturers and students at FISIP Undip who were interested in pursuing studies abroad, particularly at NIU. Furthermore, Eric Jones, Ph.D., in his presentation, shared NIU’s long history of contributing to Southeast Asia, especially through the Center for Southeast Asian Studies established in 1963. Currently, NIU is celebrating the 60th anniversary of the establishment of this study center, which played a crucial role in teaching the Malay language at U.S. universities and has become a source of pride for NIU. Jones also mentioned that NIU has been a gathering place for the best students and academics from the region.

Jones went on to explain the positive impact of NIU alumni from Indonesia, such as Anis Baswedan, Andi Mallaranggeng, Nico Hajanto, Ramlan Surbakti, who had shaped and transformed Indonesia towards a dynamic democracy.

The announced postgraduate programs by NIU at IKN will involve strategic fields, including Computer Science with a focus on artificial intelligence (AI), big data, and programming. Political Science will emphasize future challenges related to the distribution of power between the central and regional authorities, while Public Administration will provide in-depth knowledge of public services and the application of digital technology. Additionally, the Sustainability program will discuss the design of Smart Green/Forest City with the aim of understanding and maintaining the balance between nature and modern urban development.

In conclusion, Jones expressed his hope to visit the FISIP Undip campus again and provide opportunities for the faculty and staff members present at the event.
