Universitas Diponegoro (Undip) has once again been acclaimed as The 2nd Most Sustainable University in Indonesia by the UI GreenMetric World University Rankings 2023. This ranking marks a quattrick victory where Undip has secured the 2nd position as a green and environmentally friendly university for four consecutive years from 2020, 2021, 2022, to 2023. The assessment by UI GreenMetric World University Rankings was based on the level of concern for issues concerning the Earth and climate, energy and water conservation, waste management, and environmentally friendly transportation.
The analysis by UI GreenMetric World University Rankings was conducted based on 39 indicators across 6 criteria: Settings and infrastructure, Energy and Climate Change, Waste, Water, Transportation, as well as Education and research. In the UI Greenmetric Trees Rating assessment, Undip obtained a score of 4.5.
As a green campus, Undip supports the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including SDGs Goal 6 Clean Water and Sanitation, Goal 7 Affordable and Clean Energy, Goal 11 Sustainable Cities and Communities, Goal 13 Climate Action, and Goal 15 Life on Land.
Undip’s researchers are continuously strengthening their research and implementing the research findings, supported by the university’s leadership, lecturers, staff, students, and the larger Undip community along with the public. Environmental conservation efforts are regularly carried out, including tree planting, plant maintenance, wildlife conservation, fish fry stocking, river cleaning, and more.
The Rector of Undip, Prof. Dr. Yos Johan Utama, S.H., M.Hum., conveyed that this achievement was both an appreciation and an encouragement for Undip to continuously maintain and enhance its efforts in realizing a green, environmentally friendly, and sustainable campus. Prof. Yos also expressed gratitude to the entire academic community and the larger Undip family who had conducted the Sustainable and Green Campus program with environmentally friendly and sustainable activities.
“Undip is also striving to expand green open spaces through the establishment of campus parks and forests, energy efficiency, the use of environmentally friendly energy, water conservation, green transportation, and the development of a campus with green and smart building concepts. In the future, Undip hopes to contribute even more to reducing the impact of climate change by preserving and conserving natural resources, thus positively impacting our beloved Earth,” expressed Prof. Yos.
Representing Undip, Prof. Dr. Ir. Ambariyanto, M.Si., as the Vice-Rector for Research and Innovation, received the award for “The 2nd Most Sustainable University in Indonesia” at the UNHAS Hotel & Convention, Makassar on November 30, 2023. Prof. Ambariyanto expressed gratitude to the entire academic community of Undip who had collectively maintained and encouraged the improvement of Undip’s quality as a comfortable and environmentally conscious campus.
