The Master Program of Industrial Engineering and Management at Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP) held its 34th Webinar Series on Friday, October 27, 2023, under the theme “Research Edge in Industrial Engineering and Management.” The webinar was conducted via a Zoom meeting and was live-streamed on the Undip TV YouTube channel.

The event commenced with opening remarks from the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering (FT), Prof. Ir. M. Agung Wibowo, M.M., M.Sc., Ph.D., followed by a welcoming address by the chair of the Industrial Engineering Department, Dr. Purnawan Adi Wicaksono, S.T., M.T. This webinar featured professional and competent speakers in the field. The first speaker was Prof. Bulan Prabawani, S.Sos., M.M., Ph.D., a lecturer from the Undip Department of Business Administration, who delivered a presentation on “Mitigation of Risk in Supply Management.” The second speaker was Donny Passa, S.T., the VP of Buying & Indirect Procurement at PT. Lion Super Indo, who presented on the topic of “Knowing Your Customer Better through Data.” The moderator for the webinar was Prof. Dr. rer. Oec. Arfan Bakhtiar, S.T., M.T.

Prof. Bulan elaborated on Supply Chain Management, which involved the integration of procurement activities, the transformation of raw materials into semi-finished and final products, and their distribution through a system. This integrated process presented various risks, such as increased company dependency on the supply chain, reduced supplier diversity leading to greater company reliance on suppliers, risks associated with globalization and logistical complexity, risks related to vendor competence and quality, and risks arising from political factors and exchange rate fluctuations. Mitigating and responding to these risks requires adaptability in processes, controls, and the business environment.

Donny Passa, on the other hand, explained how to gain a deeper understanding of customers through data. To acquire this knowledge, it is essential to transform data into insights, with the aim of acquiring new customers, increasing sales, optimizing promotions, and strengthening relationships between retailers, brands, and customers. Building a Personalization Engine is crucial, as this system utilizes customer purchasing pattern information and transforms it into algorithms that can be further processed into strategic decision-making data by the company.

Webinar Series 34 proceeded smoothly and interactively, especially during the Q&A session, where participants actively posed questions related to supply chain and data personalization. The speakers provided clear and insightful answers to all of the questions. (Sudanta-Humas).
