In its pursuit of establishing Universitas Diponegoro as a World Class University, UNDIP organized a socialization event for Library and UNDIP Press services on Thursday (10/8/2023) at the UPT Library and UNDIP Press building, 2nd Floor, Tembalang Campus, Semarang. The library serves as a crucial foundation in the fundamental aspect of achieving this goal by enhancing literacy and reading interest to catch up with other countries such as Japan and even our neighboring country, Singapore, which exhibit high reading interest and rank among the world’s fastest. Through the development of the library, UNDIP takes on the role of a pioneer in elevating high literacy levels.
Prof. Budi Setiyono, S.Sos., M.Pol.Admin., Ph.D., as the Vice Rector III of Universitas Diponegoro, stated that the Library and UNDIP Press were currently engaged in numerous developments and innovations that were oriented towards the digital domain. Universitas Diponegoro aims to compete and position itself within the top 500 global universities in the coming years as a world-class institution. Naturally, to be competitive and secure such a position, the literacy and reading interest levels in Indonesia must rise.
“The reading interest in Indonesia remains low and impacts various sectors within the country. Presently, Indonesia ranks 68 out of 175 as one of the poorest countries globally with a debt of 3000T, and its nutritional food consumption rates significantly lag behind other nations, which is a concerning scenario. Through its library, UNDIP will lead the charge towards a mental revolution for grand future aspirations,” he continued.
The second segment of the event was delivered by the Head of UPT Library and UNDIP Press, Suwondo, S.Hum., M.Kom. He mentioned that the library has undergone significant renovation to become more futuristic and equipped with diverse supporting facilities to enhance student visits. Various developments and innovations have been carried out, including web development, Grammarly services, and Turnitin services, all aimed at facilitating students in their research phase and providing a comfortable service.
“UNDIP Library also hosts joint discussion forums that are accessible every Wednesday within the library space for students. To simplify book borrowing and returns, UPT Library is currently in the process of developing online web services, making it convenient for students to borrow or return books without the need to physically visit the library. We hope many students will visit UNDIP Library and find comfort in the development and innovations that have been implemented, just like the present scenario,” he concluded.
