Semarang, 28 November 2022 – To support Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) number four, which is about Quality of Education, the Community Service Division of FISIP Undip Student Executive Board (BEM) carried out FISIP Mengajar (Teaching) activities to be able to develop the creative potential of children in the Melati Play Group (KB) through playing, creating, and learning valuable things in the long term (sustainability). This activity took place from October to November 2022 at KB Melati, Ngadikerso Village, Sumowono District, Semarang Regency.
FISIP Mengajar is a derivative work programme of the FISIP Untuk Negeri (FUN/FISIP for the Country) work programme for Education. This year, FISIP Mengajar carried the theme “Improving Education in Indonesia by Educating the Next Generation of Creative Nations”. According to Adel as the person in charge of the FISIP Mengajar work programme, the reason Dimas BEM FISIP Undip chose Ngadikerso Village as the place for FISIP Mengajar was that the village had made a partnership with BEM FISIP Undip. This village also had fewer children aged 2 to 4 years old so that they could focus on training skills and exploring the potential of each child there.
“This activity has existed since the previous year, but this year we provide innovative and sustainable activities which are carried out in four meetings. The series of activities are also different from the previous year. The first week began with the opening of the activity, then continued with activities to plant kale and provide education on proper handwashing. Then, in the following week, there were cooking class activities for sweet potato balls, toothbrush counselling, making wall decorations, painting, and ended with an official closing and giveaway of goodie bags for the children at KB Melati,” said Adel.
FISIP Mengajar has gone through approximately three months of preparation with the stages of site surveys, composing and submitting proposals, applying for activity funds, and checking the completeness of program needs. This work programme is fully supported by the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, BEM FISIP Undip, and PT Aimtopindo Nuansa Kimia as sponsors of funding during the activity.
Adel stated that with the implementation of FISIP Mengajar, the local residents gave a positive response. In this case, the parents of students are very supportive of FISIP Mengajar activities. The teachers also welcomed this activity properly and facilitated and participated in accompanying the FISIP Teaching activity until it was completed. The children were also very enthusiastic about participating in the whole series of activities to the end.
Adel also hoped that FISIP Mengajar activities could continue to be enjoyed by children in other villages, not only in KB Melati. The FISIP Mengajar programme can provide an example of a work programme system that supports and realises quality education in Semarang Regency. (Dea Nofitri by PR of BEM FISIP Undip 2022)
