FISIP to Hold Press Council Goes to Campus, “Press Freedom, Citizen Journalism and the Role of Social Media”

Semarang (5/10) – The Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Universitas Diponegoro along with the Press Council had held a Talkshow, ‘Press Council Goes to Campus’ with the theme “Press Freedom, Citizen Journalism and the Role of Social Media.” The activity which took place at 09.00 GMT+7 was held in the Auditorium room, 3rd floor of the FISIP Undip Tembalang building on Wednesday, October 5, 2022. The event was attended not only by Undip FISIP students but also by the Vice Dean for Academic and Student Affairs, Dr Teguh Yuwono, M. .Pol. Admin., Vice Dean for Resources, Ika Riswanti Putranti, S.H., M.H., Ph.D., as well as all Chairperson of Departments and Study Programs within FISIP Undip. The activity which was moderated by Asmono Wikan (Member of the Press Council) presented several speakers such as M. Agung Dharmajaya (Vice Chairman of the Press Council), Dr. Nurul Hasfi, MA (Chairperson of Communication Science FISIP Undip), Aris Mulyawan (Chairman of AJI Semarang City), and Shafigh Pahlevi L (Social Media Observer).

In his speech, Asmono Wikan said that the activity was intended as an effort to provide literacy to the public regarding press freedom, citizen journalism and the role of social media. He also said that the Goes to Campus Press Council activity would be carried out on an ongoing basis. In addition, the public was also invited to contribute to maintaining quality journalism. The Press Council also planned to hold a Press Clinic Coaching for students and civil society. In this case, Semarang would be the first city to hold this activity as an initial survey of this program. Furthermore, the member of the Press Council also gave a message regarding the need for supervision of the media press.
