Film Screening and Discussion, From Somewhere Else: Transnational Communities and Media

Students of Communication Science FISIP Undip while watching a documentary

Semarang (15/9) – The Department of Communication Science, Faculty of Social Science and Political Science, Universitas Diponegoro held a Film Screening and Discussion activity that showed a documentary by Prof. Vandana Pednekar-Magal (Grand Valley State University) entitled From Somewhere Else: Transnational Communities and Media. In the activity held at Auditorium FISIP Undip, the Department of Communication Science FISIP Undip also presented Prof. Vandana to discuss in more detail the film with the Communication Science students of Undip FISIP.

In her explanation, Prof. Vandana said that the film discussed transnational life in America, the background of the arrival of immigrants there, how they survived in America, which was formerly known for its ‘melting pot’ concept, and its relationship with media developments. In this case, Prof. Vandana also underlined the message in the film that touched on how the media played an important role in the daily lives of immigrants and how the media helped them connect with their home countries. In addition, the film screening and discussion activities will last for two days, on Thursday, September 15, 2022, and Friday, September 16, 2022.
