Kompas Journalist to Share Stories of War Coverage in Ukraine

Semarang (12/9) – The Studium Generale or Guest Lecture of the Department of Communication, Faculty of Social Science and Political Science, Universitas Diponegoro has been held offline at the Auditorium on the 3rd floor of the Undip FISIP Campus. The event, which took place at 13.00 GMT+7, presented three speakers, namely Adi Prinantyo (Managing Editor of Kompas and Kompas.id Daily), Harry Susilo (Vice Head of the Investigation and Data Desk who also covered the Ukraine-Russia War on Kompas and Kompas.id daily), and Prof. Vandana Pednekar-Magal (Georgia State University). This time the Studium Generale was attended by the Dean of the Faculty of Social Science and Political Science, Universitas Diponegoro, lecturers from the Department of Communication Science FISIP Undip, and students from the Department of Communication Science FISIP Undip.

In his remarks, the Dean of FISIP Undip said that the sharing session from Kompas with Communication Science students from FISIP Undip this time could be used to spread understanding about quality journalism. In addition, he also mentioned that Kompas has an obligation to raise awareness for students to consume quality news. Furthermore, Hardi reminded the importance of this activity for Communication Science students, FISIP Undip, especially to support the journalism concentration course as well as investigative journalism, video production, and creative writing courses.

In this event, Prof. Vandana from Georgia State University also delivered her material on the evolution of the media in providing an informative role related to war. In addition, the participants of this Guest Lecture also received interesting information about the experience of a Kompas journalist, Harry Susilo, in covering the war that occurred in Ukraine. They also had the opportunity to try on special equipment for journalists when reporting in conflict areas.
