Semarang – The public lecture which was held in collaboration between the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Universitas Diponegoro and the Regional Indonesian Broadcasting Commission (KPID) of Central Java Province, was held on Tuesday, June 28, 2022, offline at the Tembalang FISIP Hall Room and online via the online media Zoom. This activity is an annual agenda initiated by KPI in collaboration with 12 universities in Indonesia, and Universitas Diponegoro is one of the collaboration partners in the Infotainment Show category.
This public lecture raised a topic related to the Dissemination of the Quality Index of Indonesian Television Broadcasting Programs in 2022, “Portrait of Infotainment Broadcasts in Indonesia”. This activity presented several speakers, namely Yuliandre Darwis, PhD (Central KPI Commissioner), Asih Budi Astuti Johan Utama, SH. CH. (Commissioner of KPID Central Java), and Agus Naryoso, S.Sos., M.Si (Lecturer of Communication Science Undip/Undip Field Controller for Infotainment Category).
In his remarks, the Dean of FISIP Undip conveyed several things related to the accuracy and quality of broadcasts on Indonesian television. He emphasized that television producers in Indonesia were still less creative and lacked empathy for the parties being reported on. This could be seen in the news themes in the last ten years which still carried the theme of the artist’s household life and hedonism.
In addition, Yuliandre Darwis from the Central KPI Commissioner provided material about broadcast content in the infotainment category. In this case, the Indonesian television world as a creative industry must start thinking about more varied content but still maintain the privacy of the reported party. In addition, KPI had also eliminated the Best Infotainment category in the KPI Award event due to poor research results on that category which also had caused the loss of privacy restrictions of the reported parties
Regarding the violation of the broadcasting law, KPI is to protect content creators and does not provide punishment such as punishing the perpetrators of violations. KPI provides a solution in the form of mediation to related parties.
“Because this is a state system, so we protect every content creator, not giving punishments by sending them to jail. That’s not how it is,” he said.
Meanwhile, Asih in her material conveyed her concern for broadcast content in Indonesia, which was still far from things that could support children’s needs. In general, she said that regulation as a control mechanism for television broadcasting was still difficult to be implemented in the current situation of the infotainment industry in Indonesia. Especially related to regulations governing the shows which exposed artist privacy. This was because the reported parties were willing to expose their privacy.
