The percentage of the interest or strictness (the comparison between the number of participants accepted and the applicants) for the Social Humanities study programs at the Universitas Diponegoro, at the top rank, was occupied by the Communication Science study program (FISIP), followed by the Psychology study program (Faculty of Psychology), Management study program (FEB), the International Relations study program (FISIP) and Business Administration (FISIP). These favourite study programs have long been known by the public and chosen by prospective students because they seem to provide many job opportunities in the government sphere, industry, media, and technology.

Dr. Teguh Yuwono, M. Pol. Admin., as the Vice Dean for Academic and Student Affairs of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (Fisip) Undip, said that the public’s trust in Fisip in general and especially in Communication Science, had indeed increased from year to year. Career prospects proposed by Communication Studies, International Relations and Business Administration are sectors that are quickly or easily absorbed employees. Thus, the enthusiasm is raised by the ideas that come up among the society believing the study program is a best-selling one in the world of the work, its graduates can quickly get a job, and quickly gives positive results after graduating. Those become the achievement for Communication Science, as well as the International Relations and Business Administration study program. In addition to ranking and prestige factors, those who are accepted into favourite study programs have also considered their accreditation. Take the example of Communication Science which has been internationally accredited so it gains a higher level of trust.

“We will always improve ourselves, either in terms of curriculum, competence, learning outcomes or networking aspects at work. Of course, we are proud and grateful because the public’s appreciation is increasing. Communication Science which is ranked first as the favourite choice has a wide network, good human resources and facilities with good leadership characteristics. We don’t think it’s wrong if Communication Science becomes The First Choice for the Social Humanities category,” explained Dr. Teguh

“The most important thing right now is the strategy or the effort to participate in promoting Undip so that all study programs become favourites. We can use social media for the promotion, and students and lecturers are the representatives of our study programs. Many students make short films and videos which are then uploaded on social media, such as Facebook, YouTube and Instagram which are then accessed by many people. Study programs can adopt the way of millennials in promoting study programs to increase the public interest,” he said.

“After being accepted at Undip, we hope (they) to be more serious in studying, entering college is the beginning of crocheting the future and what is no less important is in the learning process,” concluded Dr. Teguh. (Lin-PR)
