JAKARTA — Located at the Pondok Indah Golf Course on Saturday (18/12), Diponegoro Golf Community (DGC) held a golf tournament entitled “Golf with Charity”. This activity was not only a year-end agenda but also aimed to raise funds in order to conduct golf coaching at Universitas Diponegoro campus through the Diponegoro Bina Golf Foundation.
Currently, Undip is the only state university that has a golf student activity unit (UKM), starting in 2020 and inaugurated on April 11, 2021. Until mid-December 2021, 68 students had actively become members of the UKM.
The drive to be more serious in training and coaching was also reinforced by the fact that four of his students succeeded in winning trophies at the Intercollegiate Golf Series (IGS) I which was held on November 21, 2021. In the series initiated by the Ciputra Golfpreneur Foundation (CGF) and the Association of Indonesian State University Alumni Organizations (Himpuni), Nadya Maharani (Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences 2021) successfully won the Best Net Overall, Rykho B. Harahap (Faculty of Law 2020) won the Best Nett I Flight A, Akbar Hidayat (Faculty of Economics and Business 2018) won the Best Gross Flight B, and Darendra Hartono (Faculty of Engineering 2020) won the Best Nett 1 Flight B.
Playing golf requires consistent training and coaching, which of course requires a good budget and management. It prompted the formation of the Diponegoro Golf Development Foundation. This noble intention then encouraged as many as 146 participants to participate in the “Golf with Charity” event at the Pondok Indah Golf Course. From this weekend activity, they had successfully collected funds of Rp. 100 million and became a very valuable initial capital to further develop the Undip Golf UKM activities.
In his remarks, the Head of the Universitas Diponegoro Alumni Association, Drs. H. Akhmad Muqowam said that the establishment of the Diponegoro Bina Golf Foundation was inspired by the IGS event which was organized by CGF and Himpuni, which involved alumni and students (student-athletes).
“I think competition in student-athletes is also an important part of IKA Undip and DGC, that’s why we formed a foundation which becomes a collaboration between IKA Undip, DGC, and Undip. It is hoped that this Rp100 million aid will help improve the quality and motivate Undip student-athletes to continue to excel,” he said.
The Vice-Rector for Academic and Student Affairs Undip, Prof. Budi Setiyono, S.Sos., M.Pol.Admin., Ph.D., who acted as the supervisor, explained that this golf UKM was deliberately formed with two purposes.
“First, we want to be able to create or shape students who have competence and character that are integrated with the values in golf, considering that golf as a hobby can provide added value in terms of international level assessment criteria. Thus, in the context of employability, the prospects for Undip graduates can be further improved,” said Prof. Budi.
“Secondly, we do want Undip to be one of the universities that are a pioneer in promoting golf. As a sport, golf has recently had a positive trend so that when recruiting new students, many of them have been interested in golf from the start. We think that we need to facilitate and direct them so that they can excel. With the support of the alumni, through the Diponegoro Bina Golf Foundation, of course, this activity will be able to invite more Undip students to join.”
Adding to the explanation of Prof. Budi, Chairman of the DGC, Lukman Hidayat, said that as an extension of IKA Undip for golf activities, DGC was also committed to taking part in encouraging the achievements of students who were members of this golf UKM. “The presence of coaches and other supporting elements is of course to facilitate the academic activities of these students while continuing to practice and excel in the field, not at the expense of their education. Thus, the Undip campus can be an example.”
