Universitas Diponegoro Maintains 2nd Position UI GreenMetric 2021

JAKARTA — Diponegoro University (UNDIP) has managed to maintain its position as the second-best sustainable university in Indonesia in the UI GreenMetric 2021 World Ranking University, the same as Undip’s ranking in 2020. The first place in UI GreenMetric 2021 is occupied by Universitas Indonesia (UI) and in third place is Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM).

The achievement of this award as a sustainable, healthy, and sustainable campus is proud because the number of universities participating in this event has increased rapidly. From Indonesia, participants increased from 88 universities in 2020 to 101 universities in 2021; while globally the participants increased from 912 universities to 956 universities from 80 countries in the world. This year, participants from Europe were 261 universities, 53 from North America, 107 from Latin America, 513 from Asia, 20 from Africa, and 2 universities from Oceania.

The Rector of Universitas Diponegoro, Prof. Dr. Yos Johan Utama SH MHum, after receiving the award admitted that he was grateful that Undip was again ranked second nationally. “The principle of development at Undip is based on two things, first the concept of gratitude, the second the concept of rahmatan lil ‘alamin,” said Prof Yos Johan, Tuesday afternoon (14/12/2021).

The concept of gratitude, said the Undip’s Rector, we are grateful for God’s blessings, therefore we must maintain its sustainability. Both the preservation of nature, energy, water resources, the environment, everything. The concept of rahmatan lil ‘alamin concerns care, concern for disability, concern for groups that must get access that can be utilized. In addition, Undip is also one of the universities that became the Fortress of Pancasila, with these two core concepts that became the basis for its development.

Prof. Yos emphasized that services to those who need special access-askes must be prioritized. Regarding participation in UI GreenMetric, it is one of the efforts to keep Undip as a university that continues to prioritize the concepts of gratitude and rahmatan lil ‘alamin. Prof. Yos also expressed his gratitude for the efforts made by UI to spur and trigger universities in Indonesia to always care for the environment, and care for fellow ummah regardless of nationality, regardless of race.

It was also emphasized that we must jointly maintain sustainability and sustainability, including implementing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s). On this occasion, the Undip Chancellor thanked Undip friends who have collected data to be able to take part in UI GreenMetric 2021, also those who have carried out developments that prioritize environmental sustainability and all parties who have contributed so that Undip can achieve these rankings. 

To be sure, Undip’s goal in participating in this activity is not to seek rankings, but as part of an effort to provide the best service. Prof. Yos closed his response by mentioning Undip’s motto, namely Undip must be better.

The UI GreenMetric World University Rankings Awards is an activity initiated by UI since 2010 to measure the sustainability efforts undertaken by universities. The ranking is based on the framework of the Environment, Economy, and Equity concept. Chair of the UI Greenmetric World University Rankings 2021, Prof. Dr. Riri Fitri Sari, M.M, M.Sc, before reading out the 10 best rankings, said that during the Covid-19 pandemic, the percentage of maintenance operations was only 40%.

Announcements will be made on December 14, 2021, online and start at 16:00. Rank 11-30 UI Greenmetric World University Ranking 2021 Indonesia announced by Junaidi, S.S, M.A Deputy Chair of UI Greenmetric World University Ranking and announcement of ranking 1-10 of the best sustainable universities in Indonesia by Chairperson of UI GreenMetric 2021.
