SEMARANG – Dean of Social and Political Sciences Faculty (FISIP) Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP), Dr Drs Hardi Warsono, MTP., encouraged all lecturers to hold Doctoral degrees to improve the service quality of the higher education. He hoped that under his leadership, there would be a minimum of 60% of FISIP Undip’s Lecturers who hold doctoral degrees.

It was conveyed by the Dean of Fisip Undip, Dr Drs Hardi Warsono, MTP. after attending the Orasi Ilmiah Doktor Baru event called “Tata Kelola Sosial Politik Menuju Indonesia Baru” which was held hybrid, offline and online, on Wednesday (8/12/2021). The event which was held as the series of the 53rd anniversary of FISIP Undip marked the presence of four new doctors at Fisip Undip. They were Dr. Drs Sri Suryoko M.SI; Dr. Dra R.R. Hermini Susianingsih M.SI; Dr. Dra Diyah Lituhayu M.SI; and Dr. Supratiwi S.Sos, M.SI.

In his welcoming speech, Hardi Warsono stated that this moment could encourage other lecturers who had not held a doctoral degree to prepare their study soon, and to those who were still taking their study to finish theirs soon. It was also stated that currently, Fisip Undip had 105 lecturers yet only 48 of which held doctoral degrees or only 45,71 percent.

According to him, the proportion was not yet ideal and not enough. Indeed, in order to be able to compete with the other faculties, there should be a minimum of 60 % of the doctors out of the current number of lecturers. “After a discussion with the Vice-Deans, currently there are 10 lecturers who are continuing their studies. It means we need another 5 lecturers to reach the target. So, it can be the young or even the old lecturers, we will provide support and motivation for those who want to seriously take their doctoral study to improve the quality of their education,” he said.

He conveyed that during the earlier period, there was nothing special with the coming of a new doctor. However, starting from then, there would be activity performance indicators or IKK for it. The campus could not provide honorarium incentives and so on, but it could enter the score in the calculation of the Employee Work Target or SKP which could then enter the IKK. “Therefore, once again I thank you and apologize for not being able to provide better services to our mothers who today are presenters in scientific orations,” he added.

On that occasion, the Dean of FISIP also conveyed his gratitude to the four new doctors who had finished their studies well. The Orasi Ilmiah event was expected to be a booster for the fellow lecturers who were or were about to continue their studies. He also explained in the 2000s while he was taking his study, only a few lecturers continued their studies. It was as if they had no spirit regarding this matter. Then, borrowing the transmigration tagline “Tan Keno Ora Penting Kudu Sukses”, it meant that it was an obligation for young new lecturers to continue their study as soon as possible.

“Let me remind you taking education is not easy. You are not in your comfort zone, we are in an underpressure situation. Besides your study, several problems such as family, jobs, and others are obstacles that you should cover. It is such a process we should pass,” he confirmed.

Despite having limitations, FISIP Undip continued to excel. The latest update was that in 2021, FISIP Undip succeeded to rank 605+ by subject globally. “This achievement should be a pride for us yet we still have no idea on the detail of the ranking indicators they used. So, I ask the Vice-Rector to discuss it with the ranking agency in order to maintain our predicate and we can improve our structure. So far, all we can do is to give our best. Later on, the assessment will be carried out at either university or world level.”

On the Orasi Ilmiah event, Dr Dra Suryoko M.Si brought the theme “Menelusur Non-Product Output Meraih Eko-Efisiensi (Kajian Pada Industri Mikro, Kecil, dan Menengah Usaha Tahu di Adiwerna Kabupaten Tegal”. While, Dr Dra R.R. Hermini Susianingsih M.SI presented the topic “Demokrasi Berujung Pemakzulan Komoreksitas Kepemimpinan Politik lokal di Temanggung 2003-2008”.

Meanwhile, Dr Dra Diyah Lituhayu M.SI brought a theme “Tantangan Birokrasi dalam membangun Perilaku Anti Korupsi”, and Dr Supratiwi S.Sos, M.SI presented a theme “Otonomi Daerah Sebagai Kesaksamaan Intrumentasi Kebijakan: Belajar dari Kesulitan Mengelola Isu Lingkungan Hidup“. (PR team)
