UNDIP Won The 2nd Best National Rank As A Sustainable Campus By UI GreenMetric World University Rankings Of 2020

As a PTNBH university in Indonesia, Universitas Diponegoro supported a series of sustainable development goals (Sustainable Development Goals). Universitas Diponegoro had consistently taken a role in the achievement and implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which had been the agreements on the global development to achieve the sustainable development. These efforts were recognized for its success as Undip won the second best national ranking in the 2020 UI GreenMetric World University Rankings Awards as The 2nd Most Sustainable University in Indonesia. At the international rankings, Undip had been ranked 39th  globally out of 912 universities and 84 countries included in the assessment.

The UI GreenMetric World University Rankings Awards 2020 was a ranking system which provided an assessment and appreciation to universities based on their commitment and actions towards the greening and environmental sustainability by implementing the eco-friendly policies and sustainable programs. Upholding the theme “Universities Responsibility for Sustainable Development Goals and World’s Complex Challenges”, the UI GreenMetric World University Rankings Awards 2020 conference was held online on December 7th, 2020 by inviting environmental experts and representatives from universities. Focusing on the aim of the “Green Campus and Sustainability in Universities”, this ranking system was expected to increase the awareness of all parties in the ranks of institutions to pay more attention on global climate change, energy and water conservation, waste recycling, and green transportation.

This achievement was both an appreciation and an encouragement for Undip to increase its efforts in building a green, eco-friendly and sustainable campus. The

Undip’s Rector, Prof. Dr. Yos Johan Utama, SH., M.Hum., expressed his gratitude to all Undip’s academics who had implemented the Sustainable Campus program with the eco-friendly and sustainable activities.

“Undip also seeks to expand its green open areas. Such as, creating parks and campus forests, energy efficiency, the use of eco-friendly energy, water conservation, green transportation, and campus construction with the concept of green and smart building”, he said. “In the future, Undip aspire to give more contribution on preserving and conserving the natural resources. So that, it will have a good impact on our beloved Earth,” he concluded.
