SEMARANG – Doctor of Social Science (DIS) program, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences Universitas Diponegoro (Undip) declares to be ready to go International after obtaining A accreditation by BAN-PT (Higher Education National Accreditation Board). The readiness to hold the Doctoral program on a global stage is also because of the support by six professors who are still active in teaching and guiding in the Study Program.

The Head of FISIP Undip’s Doctor of Social Science program, Yuwanto, Ph.D., mentioned that the support of the six professors had become an important asset; not to mention the good international reputations they have. “We are optimistic to take a step to the global stage by receiving foreign students and become an organizer of international scale activity, including collaborating with various foreign parties,” said Yuwanto, Monday (16/11/2020).

Currently, there are six professors in the FISIP Undip’s Doctor of Social Science program, namely Prof. Budi Setiyono Ph.D., Prof. Sudharto P. Hadi, Ph.D., Prof. Dr. Endang Larasati, Prof. Dr. Naili Farida, Prof. Nurdien H. Kistanto, Ph.D., dan Prof. Dr. Ari Pradhanawati. Along with the doctors and other lecturers in the Doctor of Social Science program, the professors guide the students intensely to explore, study, and carry out research on various public social problems in political science and business administration science concentrations.

Indeed, he added, in addition to the accreditation as the highest achievement and quality professors, the support of foreign lecturers as the guest lectures; especially to broaden the academic horizon of the students and improve the international network, is needed. That last thing has been and is being done by the Doctor of Social Science program. Full support is gained through the funding and institutions at the faculty level, as well as at the university level where Undip has had an International Office and Rating Office that carry out their facilitation function for the Doctoral of Social Science and other study programs in Undip.

Determination and optimism to enter the global level, said Yuwanto, are in accordance with the Undip’s program run under the leadership of the Rector, Prof. Dr. Yos Johan Utama, S.H., M.Hum. to make Undip become an excellent research university at a global level (World Class University).

Based on the history at a glance, the Doctor of Social Science program was started by the issuance of a letter signed by the Director-General of Higher Education, Ministry of Education and Culture Number: 94/E/T/2012 which instructed Universitas Diponegoro to establish the Doctoral Program of Social Science in Universitas Diponegoro campus. Furthermore, it was strengthened by an Universitas Diponegoro Rector’s Decree Number: 555/SK/UN/2012 on September 10, 2012, then the FISIP Undip’s Doctor of Social Science program (DIS), which had study concentrations on political science and business administration science, was established.

With the two study concentrations which were relevant to the needs, the Doctor of Social Science program aimed to be an excellent study program in science, research, as well as creative, original, and tested social problem-solving for mankind that is approved nationally and internationally. The Doctor of Social Science was also determined to develop the knowledge, technology, and new art in the social science sphere through research that produced creative, original, and tested work.

This study program also prepares its alumni to be able to overcome the social problem through interdisciplinary, multidisciplinary, or transdisciplinary; as well as capable to lead, manage and develop research science that is beneficial for the benefit of mankind.

According to Yuwanto, in the last three years, the amount of students trend has been increasing around 45% each year. “the students’ interest to study here has been increasing rapidly in the last 2 years

The reasons the students choose the Doctor of Social Science program are varied. At first, it is dominated by lecturers who take further studies. Now, various circles such as bureaucracy, head of a district, NGO, journalist, entrepreneur, police, and notary also take the study program to be the students and prospective doctors at the FISIP Undip’s Doctor of Social Science.
