Diponegoro University Scholarship Foundation have again provided scholarships to 54 Diponegoro University students, consisting of 16 new scholarship recipients and 38 scholarship extensions. The total number of scholarship recipients since the program was first announced is 90 students. This scholarship is given in the form of cash with an amount of Rp. 500.000 every month until graduation. Diponegoro University Rector Prof. Dr. Yos Johan Utama, SH, M.Hum accompanied Vice Rector for Communication and Business Dr. Darsono, SE., Akt., MBA and Head of Undip Alumni Scholarship Manager, Dharmawan SE.Akt symbolically handed the scholarship to the scholarship recipient student representatives. The ceremony was held on Saturday afternoon, February 29, 2020 at Widya Puraya Building, Undip Campus, Semarang, Central Java.
In addition to providing financial assistance for daily needs or to pay for UKT, Scholarship recipients are also given with various soft skills courses such as team building, digital marketing and other training courses according to students’ interests and talents. Not only that, the Undip Scholarship Alumni Foundation also provides housing assistance for scholarship recipients who come from different town and having a difficulty in finding boarding houses with cheap rental fees.
“There are donors who lend their homes for free. We as scholarship managers utilizes them as a boarding house with rental fees of Rp. 250.000 per month. The rent is used for house operations such as paying for electricity, water, internet and rice,” explained Dharmawan, SE. Akt, Head of Alumni Scholarship Manager.
Scholarships are given to students who are struggling financially because of parental conditions such as dismissal issue, being struck in disasters or its parents has passed away. Scholarships will be awarded until students graduate from college.
On this occasion, the Rector of Diponegoro University Prof. Dr. Yos Johan Utama thanked Undip alumni who have worked hand in hand to provide scholarship assistance. To the scholarship recipients, the Rector told them to be grateful, increase their sense of nationalism and be optimistic.
“Be optimistic in finishing this college in 4 years and achieve cum laude. Also please instill confidence in yourself that if you are currently a recipient of a scholarship, then one day you will become a scholarship provider, ” the message of the Rector Prof. Dr. Yos Johan Utama in front of the scholarship recipients.
The Rector hopes that with the scholarship program, hopefully there will be no more Undip students whose tuition got forcefully stopped halfway due to the cost of living or tuition.
Since the Undip Alumni Scholarship Foundation was established in June 2016, until now there have been recorded more than 500 donors. The total funds collected to date have reached more than Rp 1.2 billion. In the future Undip alumni scholarship program will not only for undergraduate students but will also be given to students who are taking S2 or S3.
