The full series of Research School 2, organized by the Research and Scientific Affairs Division of the Student Executive Board (BEM FISIP) at Universitas Diponegoro 2026, was successfully conducted in three sessions on May 2, 2026, May 9, 2026, and May 16, 2026. This event served as a platform for students to learn and develop their research capabilities, particularly in scientific essay writing and the reinforcement of critical thinking skills.
This year, Research School 2 carried the theme “Enhancing Critical Thinking through Scientific Writing in Social and Political Studies,” with the goal of improving FISIP students’ ability to write argumentative, innovative, and relevant scientific essays addressing contemporary social and political issues. Through this activity, participants not only gained a foundational understanding of scientific essay writing but also received direct mentoring from speakers who are highly competent in the field of essay writing.
The event series began with an offline seminar held at the PKM Diponegoro Muda Hall, FISIP Undip. This seminar featured two experienced speakers. The first speaker presented on “How to Write Scientific Essays with Strong and Critical Arguments,” followed by the second speaker’s session on “How to Develop Ideas for Socio-Political Essays through Education Issues.” Participants were given the opportunity to engage in interactive discussions during a question-and-answer session. At the end of the session, participants were assigned to write a scientific essay, structured into groups of three to facilitate collaboration and teamwork.

The second session was conducted online via Microsoft Teams on Saturday, May 9, 2026. During this mentoring session, participants received direct guidance from mentors to evaluate the progress of their essay assignments. The mentoring served as a discussion forum, helping participants gain a deeper understanding of the essay writing process—from idea development and problem analysis to the formulation of critical and solution-oriented arguments.
The final session of Research School 2 was held offline at the PKM Diponegoro Muda Hall, FISIP Undip on Saturday, May 16, 2026. Participants presented the essays they had developed over the course of the program. Beyond applying the knowledge they had acquired, the presentations served as an opportunity to enhance public speaking, critical thinking, and academic communication skills. At the conclusion of the event, the organizing committee presented awards to participants with the best essay submissions as a form of appreciation for their dedication and creativity.
Through the implementation of Research School 2, it is hoped that FISIP Undip students will increase their motivation in the field of research, develop their academic abilities, and become high-achieving, innovative students ready to contribute to various competitions and scientific publications. This event was not merely a venue for academic learning but also a concrete step toward building a robust research culture within the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences at Universitas Diponegoro.
