FISIP UNDIP Encourages SDG Achievement Through Library Activation and Local Wisdom-Based Literacy in Campuranom Village

Temanggung, May 31, 2026 – Business Administration Lecturers of FISIP, Diponegoro University, implemented a Community Service Program together with UNDIP Alumni through the “Lestari Library” activation activity in Campuranom Village, Bansari District, Temanggung Regency, Central Java, on Sunday (31/5/2026).

This activity is part of the Enhancing Quality Education for International University Impacts and Recognition (EQUITY) program, under the theme “Library Activation and Literacy Improvement through the Introduction of Natural Wealth and Local Wisdom in Campuranom Village with UNDIP International Students.”

The program was initiated by Business Administration Lecturers of FISIP UNDIP, Ardy Wibowo, S.S.T., M.B.A., PhD and Rendy Ega Pradhana, M.A.B. This activity also involved Zulfa Avidiansyah, S.IIP., M.A., a lecturer in Library and Information Science from the Faculty of Humanities (FIB) UNDIP, and collaborated with Nadia Indah Kurniawati, S.Ars., an alumna of the UNDIP Architecture Undergraduate Program.

Campuranom Village was selected because it has the Lestari Library, a village library with potential for development. Not all villages have such literacy facilities, making the existence of the Lestari Library an important asset in supporting the improvement of community education quality.

The Lestari Library has more than 1,000 book collections with various genres, ranging from agriculture, motivation, novels, to children’s stories. However, the library has not been operating optimally due to several obstacles, including the community’s literacy level which still needs improvement, unfinished interior arrangement, lack of ventilation, and the room feeling hot during the day.

Through this activity, the UNDIP service team sought to activate the Lestari Library so that it could function as a reading room, study space, and center for literacy activities for the children of Campuranom Village. The library activation was carried out as a contribution to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4: Quality Education.

In addition to supporting SDG 4, this activity also relates to SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities, especially through the preservation of local wisdom and strengthening of community cultural identity. Campuranom Village has the cultural potential of Jaran Kepang (traditional horse dance) as well as natural wealth that can serve as contextual learning media for children.

The Youth Organization (Karang Taruna) of Campuranom Village, as the driving force behind the Lestari Library, jointly formulated problems across three main dimensions: education, socio-culture, and environment. These three aspects became the basis for the service team in designing activities that were not only oriented towards improving literacy but also towards sustainable community empowerment.

The service activity was also filled with a nature exploration with the children of Campuranom Village. The children were accompanied by UNDIP students and international students to learn about plants around the village, then conducted a simple analysis of plant names, Latin names, descriptions, and their benefits. This activity was designed to foster curiosity, train teamwork, and develop literacy and analytical skills through direct experience.

The involvement of international students in this activity also strengthened cross-cultural collaboration. This aligns with SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, as the program involved collaboration between lecturers, students, alumni, international students, the Youth Organization, the village government, and the local community.

The Head of Campuranom Village, Wirawan, expressed that the library activation is expected to increase the children’s motivation to learn.

“The library activation program is expected to increase the children’s motivation to learn. We also hope that the children here can continue their education to higher levels,” he said.

Through this program, FISIP UNDIP reaffirms its commitment to promoting impactful, collaborative community service aligned with the achievement of the SDGs. The activation of the Lestari Library is expected to be an initial step in strengthening literacy, community empowerment, and the sustainable preservation of the local potential of Campuranom Village.
