Semarang, 25 April 2026
As an implementation of the Tri Dharma Perguruan Tinggi (the Three Pillars of Higher Education), which encompasses education, research, and community service, the Himpunan Mahasiswa Peduli Sosial (HIMPS) of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Universitas Diponegoro, has once again demonstrated its commitment to social welfare. On this occasion, HIMPS FISIP Undip organized the 2026 Health and Social Care Festival (HSCF) under the theme “Bright Eyes, Bright Future.” The event was held with great solemnity and enthusiasm at Fitra Bhakti Islamic Elementary School, Pudakpayung, Banyumanik District, Semarang City.
This program was designed as a response to the vital importance of early health education, particularly regarding eye health in the digital age, where children are increasingly familiar with the use of gadgets. By targeting 3rd, 4th, and 5th-grade students, HIMPS FISIP Undip aims to ensure that the younger generation is equipped with sufficient knowledge to protect their vision as an asset for a brighter future.
The event opened with high spirits from both the committee and the students. As the keynote speaker, Angel Putri Melani, a medical student, was present to deliver educational material. The presentation was dynamic and fluid. Angel successfully simplified complex eye health concepts into relevant points that were easy for elementary school-aged children to understand. The classroom atmosphere came alive due to intense two-way interaction; students did not hesitate to actively ask questions or respond to the challenges presented by the speaker.

Beyond merely providing theory, the HSCF 2026 committee understands that children learn most effectively through fun methods. Therefore, the educational sessions were interspersed with various educational games themed around eye health. These games were designed not only to entertain but also to reinforce the participants’ understanding of good habits, such as reading with sufficient lighting, maintaining a safe viewing distance when looking at screens, and indirectly emphasizing the importance of nutrition for eye health.
The highlight of the event was the hands-on practice session or the eye exam simulation using a Snellen Chart. Several student representatives enthusiastically stepped forward to try the visual acuity testing procedure. This simulation provided the students with a real-life experience of how medical professionals perform professional early detection of eye health conditions. This moment was particularly memorable as it provided a direct visualization of the importance of maintaining eye health before any impairments occur.
Through an event format that blended education with recreation, HSCF 2026 successfully achieved its intended outcomes. The increased awareness among students in recognizing the early signs of eye health issues, along with practical solutions for managing eye strain from daily activities, stands as a significant achievement for HIMPS FISIP Undip.

HSCF 2026 was more than just a one-day social outreach event. It was a concrete step taken by students to bridge the gap between academic knowledge and the needs of the community at the grassroots level. HIMPS FISIP Undip hopes that the spirit instilled through this activity will endure. Equipped with this knowledge, it is hoped that the students of Fitra Bhakti Islamic Elementary School can become agents of change for themselves and their peers in maintaining eye health, ensuring they are ready to embrace the future with clear and optimal vision.
