Department of Politics and Government Science FISIP UNDIP Holds Undip Global Classroom Discussing Latin American Global Politics

Semarang, May 21, 2026 — The Department of Politics and Government Science, FISIP Diponegoro University, held the Undip Global Classroom event entitled “Latin America in Global Politics: from the US’s ‘Backyard’ to the Multipolar Arena” on Thursday (5/21). This event served as an international academic discussion space aimed at broadening students’ perspectives on the dynamics of global politics and the strategic position of the Latin American region in the world’s geopolitical arena.

The event began with remarks from the Secretary of the Government Science Study Program, FISIP Undip, Bangkit Wiryawan, Ph.D. In his speech, he stated that the Undip Global Classroom is part of the department’s commitment to providing a global learning space capable of connecting international perspectives with the academic community of FISIP Undip.

The event featured the main speaker, Ricardo Gita Perkasa, Ph.D., from the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Santiago, Chile. In his presentation, Ricardo explained the political developments in Latin America and the region’s transformation from an area long considered the United States’ “backyard” to a key actor in the multipolar global order. He also highlighted the dynamics of diplomacy, economic cooperation, and the strengthening of relations among Global South countries in contemporary international politics.

The discussion took place interactively and was moderated by Hanifa Maylasari, M.Sos., a lecturer from the Department of Politics and Government Science, FISIP Diponegoro University. The discussion and Q&A sessions were dynamic, with high participant enthusiasm in addressing global geopolitical issues, the influence of the United States in the Latin American region, and diplomatic challenges amid changes in the world’s political constellation.

Through this Undip Global Classroom activity, FISIP Diponegoro University hopes that students will gain broader international perspectives and enhance their analytical abilities regarding developing global political issues.
