From Campus Activism to National Banking: The Journey of an International Relations Alumnus Working as a Funding & Retail Transaction Sales Manager

Semarang, FISIP UNDIP — Alumni of FISIP UNDIP continue to demonstrate their strategic roles across various sectors, including the national banking industry. Hari Agung Satya Wicaksana, S.Sos., commonly known as Satya, an alumnus of the International Relations Study Program at FISIP UNDIP, currently serves as the Funding & Retail Transaction Sales Manager at PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia (Persero) Tbk.

Satya’s career journey reflects the continuity between academic experience, campus activism, and professionalism in the workplace. Since graduating in 2019, he joined a national banking talent development program and has gradually held various strategic positions in retail payments, merchant relationships, and financial transactions in several regions of Indonesia.

In an alumni interview, Satya explained that his International Relations background provides a distinct advantage, particularly in negotiation, policy analysis, strategic communication, and understanding inter-actor relations—competencies highly relevant to building customer and business partner networks in the banking sector.

His organizational experience as Chairman of the International Relations Student Association (HMHI) and Head of the External Partnership Division of UNDIP’s Student Executive Board (BEM) also shaped his leadership capacity and decision-making abilities. According to him, the dynamics of campus organizations serve as an effective “social laboratory” for practicing conflict management, teamwork, and collective responsibility.

“Working in the banking industry is not just about numbers, but also about trust, communication, and relationships. I strongly feel those values were instilled in me since my time at FISIP,” he said.

Satya also highlighted the importance of student readiness to face technological changes and digital systems in the financial sector. He encourages students to strengthen their data literacy, presentation skills, and professional ethics in order to compete in an increasingly digitalized industry.

Through alumni stories like Satya’s, FISIP UNDIP continues to affirm its role as a learning environment that not only builds academic knowledge but also shapes the character and leadership competencies of its graduates.
