During his five-day visit (October 15-19, 2024) to Italy and Germany, the Dean of FISIP took the opportunity to meet with IISMA 2024 awardee, Alvito Dean Savier. Vito, as he is commonly called, is currently enrolled in the Global Humanities Studies program at Sapienza University of Rome. He is a seventh-semester student in the International Relations Study Program at FISIP, Universitas Diponegoro.

The meeting with the Dean took place in Vatican City, in front of the renowned St. Peter’s Basilica. On that day, Vatican City was filled with tourists arriving for the Jubilee of Rome celebration, which is held every 25 years. The group found a meeting point amidst the crowds, as Vito had to continue his internship activities nearby afterwards.

According to Vito, it is crucial for FISIP Undip to develop international collaborations with top universities worldwide, especially for final-year undergraduate students who need exposure to academic programs and learning environments at such institutions. There is much to learn, including the differences in teaching styles and class structures between universities in Italy and those in Indonesia.

The Global Humanities Studies program at the Faculty of Humanities, Sapienza University of Rome, runs for approximately six months, beginning in September, with Vito scheduled to complete his studies in February 2025. While completing his studies, he is also actively involved in off-campus activities, such as an internship at the FAO office in Rome, which also engages the Indonesian Embassy in Rome. After completing the IISMA program, Vito will transfer the credits earned at Sapienza University to be included in his transcript at Universitas Diponegoro.

In addition to meeting Alvito, the Dean of FISIP and his entourage also had the opportunity to meet with one of Sapienza University of Rome’s lecturers, Dr. Claudia de Martino. The meeting was relaxed, taking place in the evening around the Colosseum and Palatine Hill, and concluded with a dinner featuring traditional Roman cuisine.
