Atlas Network and La Cátedra Vargas Llosa organize the IV Young Journalism Award named after Carlos Alberto Montaner for excellence, information rigor, ethical consistency and defense of freedom in the practice of journalism. The award is named after the journalist and thinker Carlos Alberto Montaner, who was twice president of the jury, in addition to being one of the most influential figures in the defense of freedom of the Spanish language.
The IV Journalism Award will aim to recognize and promote new values of journalism. Journalists under 35 years of age from any country can participate, with the number of works they deem appropriate.
The IV Journalism Award jury will be chaired by Gina Montaner, a renowned journalist based in Miami. The jury will be made up of Bertha Pantoja Arias, Executive Director of Freedom Roads, Lucía Santa Cruz, Member of the Board of Directors of the Adolfo Ibáñez University in Chile, and Fernando Carvallo, a journalist from Peru.
The winner agrees to participate in the award ceremony in person or virtually, as well as to intervene in conferences, dialogues and interviews around his or her award-winning work. Likewise, allowing the publication of the winning work in physical and digital media considered for its wide distribution.
Benefits
The IV Journalism Prize has a prize of US$ 10,000, subject to applicable taxes. The winner of this fourth prize will be announced at the International American-European Forum, organized in November by the International Foundation for Freedom (FIL). Likewise, the winner will be invited with all expenses paid to deliver a speech on a given topic at the annual meeting of the Atlas Network Latin American Forum, to be held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in February 2025.
Requirements
- The IV Journalism Prize will be used for works in the original Spanish language published in print, radio, television and digital media during the year preceding the closing of applications.
- Translations of original works in other languages will not be accepted.
- The following categories will be accepted:
- Chronicle: A report that uses persuasive prose together with formal literary sources, narrating the facts of reality in detail and in detail.
- Opinion – essay: Journalistic work that, through an argumentative structure, supports the author’s opinion on a subject.
- Journalistic investigation: In-depth reporting that uncovers events hidden from public opinion.

- Submissions must be submitted in PDF format (for written journalistic works) or as a YouTube link via the management computer platform accessible on this page.
- Entrants must register in it to submit their entries.
