Semarang (17/07) – To ensure the comfort, welfare, and happiness of the entire academic community at the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) of Universitas Diponegoro (Undip), the FISIP Wellness Unit organized a socialization event on the Prevention and Handling of Sexual Violence (PPKS) and Mental Health Issues for educational staff. This event took place on Tuesday, July 16, 2024, in the Diponegoro Muda Student Activity Center Hall, Building D, 1st Floor, FISIP Undip Campus.

The Dean of FISIP Undip, Dr. Drs. Teguh Yuwono, M.Pol.Admin., emphasized the importance of this activity in his opening remarks, stating that it is directly related to the comfort, welfare, and happiness of the academic community. “I hope this continues not only within the campus context but also in our surrounding environment, benefiting students, educational staff, and lecturers,” Dr. Teguh expressed.

The event featured several speakers, including Elisabet S.A Widyastuti, SKM, M.Kes. (Executive Director of the Indonesian Family Planning Association (PKBI) Central Java), Iis Amalia, S.Psi., M.Psi., Psychologist (Counselor at PKBI Central Java), and Dr. Hapsari Dwiningtyas, S.Sos, M.Si, M.A. (Chairperson of FISIP Wellness Unit).

In her presentation, Elisabet S.A Widyastuti discussed the topic of Prevention and Handling of Sexual Violence (PPKS) within Universitas Diponegoro, particularly in FISIP. Her material covered the importance of bodily autonomy, the definition of sexual violence, types of sexual violence, and the legal implications based on Law No. 12 of 2022 on Sexual Violence Crimes and the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology Regulation No. 30 of 2021 on PPKS in Higher Education Institutions.

Furthermore, Iis Amalia in her presentation entitled “Observing the Mental Condition of Victims of Violence” discussed the psychological impact experienced by victims of sexual violence. Such violence not only causes physical suffering but also deprives victims of their psychological rights, such as tranquillity, peace, and freedom from fear. Victims of sexual violence often feel powerless and require support tailored to their needs.

Meanwhile, Dr. Hapsari Dwiningtyas elaborated on the socialization of prevention and handling of mental health issues and sexual violence within FISIP Undip. She explained the background for establishing the FISIP Wellness Unit (FWU), citing the increasing mental health issues, such as suicide rates and other mental disorders, and the university’s commitment to addressing the three major academic sins: bullying, intolerance, and sexual violence. FWU is tasked with managing both academic and non-academic issues, such as mental health, bullying, and sexual violence.

Data shows that education personnel in higher education face significant mental health risks, with a high prevalence of anxiety and depression. FWU provides various services, including complaint hotlines, counselling rooms, and case handling coordination, to support mental health and address sexual violence cases on campus.

This activity represents a concrete step by FISIP Undip in creating a safe, comfortable, and healthy campus environment for the entire academic community, enabling them to fulfil their roles and responsibilities optimally.
